Colo-NESCO Bone Marrow Drive
Save a life! Please join the bone marrow registry!
Colo-NESCO senior Kate Hulshizer will be hosting a bone marrow drive in the Colo-NESCO High School cafeteria from 10am to 6pm on March 12th. This drive is to support those that are in need of a bone marrow transplant.
To become a donor, understand that this is a simple commitment. The process starts with four swabs of the cheek to collect cells that will be matched with a patient in need. If the cells match with a patient, the next step is further testing to make sure the match will follow through. The donation procedure is next. In an operating room a doctor will draw out liquid bone marrow from the pelvic bone. Donors receive anesthesia and feel no pain during the donation.
Signing up to be a donor will increase the odds of finding matches for patients in need. The chances of finding a match are 76% to 97% percent. Giving doctors a wider range of donor possibilities makes the likely hood of saving a life much greater. The discomfort after the transplant is not comparable to the discomfort that a patient in need is experiencing. Give hope by learning more at http://bethematch.org. Give life by signing up to be a donor.
