Buddy Class Activity
In honor of Black History Month, Mrs. Shinkunas’ first-graders worked with their fourth-grade buddies in Mr. Yannarella’s room to research famous African Americans. Each child read about a famous African American, researched and took notes, and made a ChatterKids video to share what he/she learned. The students enjoyed watching each other’s videos and learning how important these people were to our country.

- This Mystery Teacher works with students from each and every grade from Kindergarten all the way up to 6th. Although she is new to Linden this school year, she is not new to Central Bucks. She spent the last 12 years just a few miles down the road at Cold Spring Elementary. (Mrs. Stephenson)
- This Mystery Teacher is new to Linden and teaches first grade. She loves the color pink and decorating her classroom. (Mrs. Fetter)
- This Mystery Teacher has been a teacher here at Linden for 13 years. This person loves to read, do puzzles, and cook (but not at the same time). Who could it be? (Mrs. Ojeda)
- This Mystery teacher is a bird brain in more ways than one. She is an Eagles fan, because she grew up in Philadelphia, and she loves to use her binoculars to spot them in flight. You can find her paddling her kayak in the summer on Barnegat Bay or hiking a mountain trail with friends and family. (Mrs. Nolt)
- This Mystery Teacher loves to scrapbook and has been at Linden for 25 years. She started her career at Gayman. (Mrs. Rubeo)
- This Mystery Teacher has been a teacher at Linden for 17 years. She has taught many grade levels. She is bilingual and loves to travel and visit her relatives and friends in different countries. (Mrs. White)
- This Mystery Teacher is one of several female teachers downstairs - BUT, she's the only one with a holiday song written about her! (Mrs. Rudolph)
- This Mystery Teacher has been at Linden 3 different times in the past 34 years. She loves the Green Bay Packers, and is ready to retire soon! (Mrs. Volpe)
- This Mystery Teacher has been teaching for 26 years and loves to travel. Some of her favorite adventures were hiking through the rainforest in Costa Rica and swimming with wild dolphins off the coast of the Azores. (Mrs. Logue)
- This Mystery Teacher is a Kindergarten teacher who has been at Linden for 13 years. She loves Ohio State, spending time with her three kids, and being outdoors. (Mrs. Low)
- This Mystery Teacher works at Linden AND Kutz. You'll find her on the softball field when she's not teaching or jumping from one activity to the next with her four girls. (Mrs. Theis)

2nd Grade Swim Initiative at the YMCA of Bucks County - Doylestown
2nd Grade Swim Initiative at the YMCA of Bucks County-Doylestown
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death for children under fourteen. The YMCA of Bucks County believes that all children should know how to swim and be safe in and around water. For this reason, the Y offers a 2nd Grade Water Safety Program.
Second grade is an ideal time for young people to take on new challenges, learn more skills and enhance their feelings of mastery and competence. Through the 2nd Grade Swim Initiative, the YMCA seeks to offer children lessons in swimming skills and water safety that will keep them safe and build physical and social skills. Research shows that if a child doesn’t learn to swim by the third grade, chances are he or she never will.
In 2015, the YMCA transitioned their “Learning to Swim” program to become more focused on water safety skills creating a new “Safety Around Water” program. The skills taught in this program include submerging, back floating, rolling over from back to front, front floating, and treading. In the event of a water emergency, being capable of performing these skills can help keep a child safe until help arrives. The primary goal of the 2nd Grade Swim Initiative is to educate all second graders how to be safe in and around water. To accomplish this goal, second graders will be evaluated for the skills taught in the YMCA’s Safety Around Water curriculum. If a child cannot perform one or more than one of these skills, they will qualify for 6 free Water Safety Lessons at the YMCA.
All children who qualify for these lessons will also receive a free youth membership for the duration of the program to encourage families to help support their children and practice the skills learned during the lessons.
Evaluations will be held at the YMCA in Doylestown at the following times:
Saturday, March 28 11:45am or 12:15pm
Sunday, March 29 12pm or 12:30pm
Saturday, April 4 11:45am or 12:15pm
Sunday, April 5 12pm or 12:30pm
Registration for an evaluation time can be done online at ymcabucks.org or at the Welcome Center from March 1-21, 2020.
If your child qualifies, lessons will be offered May 2-June 6 at the same times. Registration for lessons can be done after evaluations for those that qualify.
