5th grader Ynna De La Cruz is our 1st Million Word Reader with 1,061,676 Words. She was recognized during the 2nd six weeks awards assembly.

Annual Donuts with Dad Event

Anaya library was all for "TEAM DAD" at this years annual donuts with dad event. The theme was wear your favorite team jersey and many dads showed to enjoy refreshments in the cafeteria. After they were escorted to the library to read with their children. Outside the library was a photo area and inside the Scholastics book fair was available for Dad's to purchase books to read at home with their children. We had a great turnout on October 22, 2015 and look forward to seeing more Dads reading with their children next year in 2016. Thank you to all the parent volunteers and staff that made this event a success. You can scroll down and watch our Animoto video of the event.

Carmen Anaya Day

On October 15, 2015 In remembrance of Mrs. Carmen Anaya we held our annual Carmen Anaya Day with a special Tea Party. The school was displayed with work from each grade level by the students representing writing activities and poems. The Anaya family, relatives and friends were invited to take part in this special day. A video presentation showed what our students, staff and volunteers accomplish during the year and to show how we honor Mrs. Anaya's name. Education is our priority and for students to excel to be great members of the community. The choir under the direction of Janie Cuellar the choir sang "Thinking of You".

Thank you to all the Carmen Anaya staff, students and parent volunteers for making this event a success.

Scholastics Book Fair

The Anaya Library is happy to bring the Scholastics book fair for students to build their home libraries. The total amount sold this Fall at the book fair was 2,100.

Storybook Character Contest

Students Pre-K through fifth grade were asked to participate in the annual pumpkin character contest.

Annual Storybook Character Parade

Students were asked to dress as their favorite storybook character and were able to participate in the character parade held on October 30, 2015.

Book Bingo

Pre-Kinder through 5th grade students are participating on a new initiative to get students reading with a fun activity "Book Bingo" . Librarian Laura Quiroz-Torres has students eagerly reading and in a rush to complete their library book bingo before the deadline of November 20, 2015. Students must complete any line of five squares with the required reading, AR quiz and place a passing grade in each box to make a good bingo. Students are learning different areas of the library, as well as, where to locate and use eBooks. Students who complete a bingo will be rewarded. Looking forward to seeing how many are turned in.

Cloudy with a chance for books

November is picture book month and the theme is Cloudy with a chance of books. Students listening to the story Cloudy with a chance of meatballs by Judi Barrette. After listening to the story students worked on a writing activity predicting the weather for the town of chewandswallow. Pre-Kinder through fifth grade are all participating on expanding their writing skills needed for the state exam.

2nd six weeks Reading Awards

All students who meet individualized AR goals are rewarded for their reading efforts with a certificate and treat. Kings & Queens of Words are students who have the most words in the whole grade level with an average of 85% and above. Kings & Queens of points are students who have the most points in the whole grade level with an average of 85% and above.
