Ms. Leveque's Weekly Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Leveque
It has been a joyous start to the 2022-23 school year at Killam! There was a buzz throughout the building exuding excitement. Each classroom that I visited had students fully engaged in community building activities and opportunities for students to dip their toes into learning. We are glad to have our students back in the building!
This is the first of my weekly newsletters. Each week that we are in session, I'll share with you important dates and information to help you plan, highlights about our learning experience, and Reading Public School community news that will set your family up for a successful experience. I look forward to sharing all that we do at Killam!
Staffing Updates:
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Donna Rogers, general education tutor and Ms. Jenna Maglio, special education paraeducator. Additionally, Michelle Brennan is our new cafeteria manager. They are joining a fantastic Killam team that helps us ensure our students get many opportunities to learn throughout their day. We are still looking for support in the kitchen and as a general education tutor. Spread the word and job opportunity website: Reading Public Schools - TalentEd Hire (tedk12.com)
Stay well,.

Killam Safety Reminders
Arrival:
Follow these guidelines if you are participating in rolling car drop-off a child at the front of the building:
- Pull up as far as you can in the driveway prior to letting your child exit the car.
- Drivers stay in the car and children exit on the sidewalk side of the car.
- If your child is unable to get out of the car independently, please park in a street parking space and walk them in.
- Do not pass cars in the driveway and it is a right turn only out of the driveway.
Dismissal:
At dismissal time, there is no live pick up in the driveway except for students who take the bus.
As a safety reminder, the staff parking lot is staff only. We respectfully ask that caregivers park along the streets. With our students exiting from their external doors in the parking lot, having cars drive in and out is not safe. Thanks for helping us out.
Dogs and Puppies on School Grounds
As much as we all love dogs and puppies and as much fun as it is walking them, School Committee policy prohibits dogs on school grounds. If you'd like to walk your dog as part of your pick up routine, the dog has to stay off school property. If you'd like your child to walk to you on the sidewalk or to the driveway entrances at dismissal so you can wait with your dog please make that plan with them.
Basketball and Wall Ball
To ensure safety, the basketball hoop and the wall ball game will not be open at arrival. Both are played within the staff parking lot area and we want to make sure staff can enter and park safely in the mornings. We will have both open during recess. Thank you for helping!

Parent PlusPortal Access
As a parent guardian of a child in the Reading Public Schools, you have access to the Parent PlusPortal. It also acts as a communication portal between you and your child’s teacher where oftentimes, different academic links, notes, or activities are shared.
If you are a returning parent, your account is still active. If you are new parent guardian and have not received access, please reach out to our school administrative assistant, Jackie Maglio at jaculen.maglio@reading.k12.ma.us. At that point, you will receive a separate email with your PlusPortal login information. The subject line of the email is Important! Killam School PlusPortals login.
