Message From the Principal
Happy Youth Day!
Titan families, I invite you to come to walk with me on Saturday, October 13th at 9:30 am at the Youth Day Parade! The Youth Day float was a collaborative effort coordinated by the PTSA Chair, Mrs. Tracy Murphy, and with the expertise of construction teacher, Mr. Dan Moffit, and art teacher, Ms. Laurie Powell. I am proud to say our float was constructed and crafted completely by Elkins Pointe students. Mr. Kelly Ross from the Dads Club has volunteered to pull the trailer tomorrow. A special thank you to the Sturrock family for lending us their trailer. This project could not have happened without PTSA supplying the materials and parents donating candy.
Thank you all supporters of this mission to bring the Youth Day float to fruition. I will be on Mimosa Blvd. with my Titan blue spirit-wear. Our float is going to be so amazing!
Sincerely,
Kindra L. Smith, Ed.S

Way to go!

BIG THANK YOU PROJECT - EPMS Service Project for the US Military - 10/19
300+ "Thank You" letters are requested from EPMS students to deployed military members this holiday season. The radio station Q100 and the Bert Show collect handwritten thank you letters each year thanking the military for protecting our country. These letters are delivered to every serviceman/woman who will spend Thanksgiving/Christmas/Etc. away from their family and friends. I think it is important for students to learn to give back to the community, so I am encouraging every student to write at least one thank you letter!
Requirements for "Thank You" Letter:
- Should be 1 paragraph with 5 or more sentences or longer.
- Encouraging words and thanks for their service to our country. Nothing negative - ONLY positive!
- Draw a color picture. Here are some ideas: American Flag, Thanksgiving scene, Holiday scene, nature, a picture of your pet, or any picture you think will show patriotism or gratitude.
- NO PERSONAL INFORMATION! First name ONLY! Students can write that they attend Elkins Pointe Middle School, but should not include their personal address or their last name for safety reasons. Many years, I have had students receive a letter back from their service member.
- Letters on lined-paper (i.e. binder paper) or copy/printer paper (white bond paper). The letters should not consist of glue/glitter/staples, any picture taped on. The letters should not be on construction paper and do not need to be placed in an envelope. All letters should be decorated with pens, colored pencils, markers, or crayons!
- Handwritten written letters. NOT typed on the computer.
- For more information about the “Big Thank You” project: http://thebertshow.com/articles/bigthankyou/
Miss Rankin has set a goal of collecting 300 letters! All letters need to be turned in by Friday, October 19th! Thank you so much for supporting my goal of teaching students the importance to give back to the community this year! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
Best, Ms. Missy Rankin, 6th Grade Math Teacher

THINGS ABOUT Health & Wellness
What is Dysautonomia?
Dysautonomia is not rare. Over 70 million people worldwide live with various forms of dysautonomia. People of any age, gender or race can be impacted. There is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time, but Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments, and hopefully someday a cure for each form of dysautonomia. Despite the high prevalence of dysautonomia, most patients take years to get diagnosed due to a lack of awareness amongst the public and within the medical profession.
