Note from the Director
We are still going strong with our "Lift Us Up" elevator upgrade fundraising campaign. I am so proud of our community members who have stepped up in a BIG WAY! We have raised an incredible amount of money so far in only one month. I have received a more inclusive estimate from one of the elevator contractors, and we're looking at closer to $160,000 to upgrade not only the elevator itself, but to bring the machine room in the basement up to necessary code.
We have two ticketed events planned in October to help raise more funds in a "last ditch effort" to meet the matching pledges of $65,000 by October 15th. I hope to see many of you at one or both!
In honor of Spanish Heritage Month, we are excited to start a PreK Spanish Story Time on Tuesday October 3rd at 1:30pm. Join Ms. Carmen every week as she introduces Spanish basics through stories and circle time for preschool aged children and their caregivers!
Warm regards,
Christina Danos
Unable to use the stairs? We are happy to help!
We encourage patrons to use our online catalog or call 479-253-8754 for book requests, and we will put them out on the curbside cart in front of the Annex building.
Thank you for your support and patience during this process. We are looking forward to these upgrades so our little elevator will run like new!
Look for this newsletter on the third Tuesday of each month. This gives us time to wrap up the previous month, and let you know what's coming up the following month.

Science + Philosophy Discussion Group
Come explore “the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.” We know the answer is 42, but what is the question? Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 PM. Wednesdays we look top down through the lens of morality, currently discussing C.S. Lewis's The Abolition of Man or Reflections on Education With Special Reference to the Teaching of English in the Upper Forms of Schools. Thursdays we view bottom up with Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Sometimes we put the GPT-4 Babelfish in our ear for a translation, looking for order in the chaos. First Friday Book Club
Drop into the Library Annex Meeting Room on Friday, October 6th at 10:30am to discuss The Masterpiece by Fiona Davis and pick up a copy of next month's book Whereabouts by Jhumpa Lahiri. This is a book about a woman questioning her place in the world, wavering between stasis and movement, between the need to belong and the refusal to form lasting ties. Whereabouts will be discussed on Friday, November 3rd at 10:30am.
Conversational Spanish Group and Beginner Spanish Class
The Conversational Spanish Group meets weekly on Tuesdays at 5pm. Come to the library meeting room to practice Spanish with other language learners of varying abilities - this group is for anyone who speaks Spanish or wants to! The informal atmosphere will be led each week by native speaker, Carmen Rose.
Every Thursday at 5pm, Carmen teaches a Beginner Spanish Class, for those who are just learning and aren't quite ready for the Tuesday group. All ages welcome!
LEGO Club
Preschool song and story time
Story time meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am in the children's room or library garden. Families with young children are invited to join us for some circle time songs, a snack, stories, and the opportunity to meet new friends!
Music in the Garden
In the Library Garden (weather permitting) or in the meeting room, every Wednesday from 4:30pm-6:00pm you may hear the soulfully sweet tunes of our very own Don Matt and the talented Scott Thompson as they play acoustic folk tunes for any and all those lucky enough to sit for a spell and give a listen. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!
