Hello Longwood Families!
Thank you to the many families who have already registered their children for the upcoming school year! As you know, our numbers can greatly impact the number of sections and teachers for each grade level, so we appreciate your help in getting your child(ren) registered as soon as possible.
81% of our students' registration has been at least started for the upcoming school year! 52% are fully registered, with kindergarten in the lead with 76%! Way to go!

School Grounds
On Friday, July 7th, our parking lots, blacktop, and circle drive were freshened up with the cracks filled, seal coated, and repainted! Thank you to the Buildings & Grounds Department!
Our new playground is complete and looks amazing! Our students will be so excited to see all of the new features! A special thank you to Mrs. Green, Mrs. Baker, Ms. Collins, Mrs. Newton, and our parent representatives: Mr. Afshari and Mrs. Quick, for supporting the process in analyzing community feedback, and providing input regarding play pieces and overall design!
Join us on the Blacktop and Playground for food, fun, and time with friends!

New Faces
Ms. Maria Purpura, 3rd Grade
Ms. Brittany Boling, 3rd Grade
Ms. Boling joins the Longwood team with 9 years of experience as a primary grade teacher from Homer Glen and Hazel Crest School Districts. Ms. Boling is a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education as well as an endorsement in Reading and a Special Education certification. Ms. Boling is passionate about empowering students to pursue their passions and curiosities, set and exceed their academic and personal goals, while safeguarding the excitement and wonder found in learning.
Ms. Kristin Grapenthien, 5th Grade
Mr. Wayne Anderson, 5th Grade
Over the past fifteen years, Mr. Anderson has taught third, fourth, and fifth grades for Beach Park School District, Chicago Public Schools, and, most recently, Plainfield School District 202. Mr. Anderson received his Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Depaul University. Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Anderson was a carpenter. He and his wife have a 12-year-old dog named Molly and have been renovating a 102-year-old farmhouse in Elburn.
Ms. Courtney LaShure, Project Arrow
Ms. LaShure is thrilled to begin her 18th year of teaching with the Longwood team. Ms. LaShure has a Bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education from Elmhurst University and a Masters Degree in Reading Education from Concordia University. Encouraging her students to grow and learn from their mistakes is her greatest passion. When she is not teaching, Ms. LaShure enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and learning about topics of interest, traveling to Arizona to visit relatives, making her favorite meals and hosting get togethers.
Ms. Tatiana Diaz, Art
Ms. Kristen Murray, Music
Mrs. Murray is in her 13th year of teaching and 6th in District 204. Having received her bachelor’s from Millikin University and master’s from Michigan State University, she has worked as a choir director at the high school level in district 204 and is looking forward to transitioning to elementary. Kristen lives in Batavia with her husband Matt, daughter Hannah, and dog Abbey. She enjoys songwriting, reading, running and attempts to cook. She is excited to join the Longwood team!

The Longwood community wishes Mrs. Tracy Schwartz and Mrs. Maria Arias well as they transition to brand new roles within the district.
Mrs. Schwartz accepted a brand new role with District 204 as Positive Engagement & Student Support Coach. This position is an opportunity to grow our district by providing comprehensive social/emotional learning support, trauma-informed, restorative approaches, and professional learning and support to students and staff across District 204.
Mrs. Arias also accepted a brand new role within District 204 as a Bilingual Parent & Community Relations Coordinator for Migrant Families. This opportunity will expand the wonderful work Mrs. Arias has done in supporting our families at Longwood to leading the support for families district-wide.
We are in the process of interviewing for and selecting the best candidates for the roles of Social/Emotional Learning Coach and Home/School Liaison.
