High School Highlights

Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School

October 23, 2020

Another week is in the books at BWHS and second quarter is underway! Our first quarter grade cards went live on PowerSchool on Thursday. If you have any questions or concerns when looking at your student(s) progress, please feel free to reach out to their teachers or school counselor. Our third round of (virtual) parent-teacher conferences will be Thursday, November 12, from 4:00-7:30.

There are a lot of things happening for all our BWHS students over the coming weeks. Please read through this newsletter carefully to make sure you are up-to-date on everything.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.

College Application Week

This week, our school counselors were on hand to assist our senior students with their college applications as we kick-off application season. Students were able to sign up for one-on-one appointments with their counselor to discuss next steps, the application process, college essays and more. November 1 is a big deadline for many schools and these appointments helped to get many of our students headed in the right direction. The next college application days will be November 11-13. Our staff dressed in their favorite college gear on Monday to show support for these students.

Eagle Time is Back!

We are excited to announce that we are going to bring Eagle Time back for three weeks during second quarter. On Wednesday, November 18, December 2 and December 9, we will be implementing our Eagle Time adjusted schedule to give our staff and students the flexibility to meet for remediation, reassessment and other conversations about academic progress. This time was beneficial last year for both our students and staff and we are excited to bring back this opportunity to help our students be successful. We are looking to reintroduce Eagle Time on a permanent basis during second semester if this trial run goes well.

Evening of Excellence

In case you missed it, please check out our annual Evening of Excellence, sponsored by our Academic Boosters, done virtually this year. Congratulations to all of these students. We are proud of your hard work!
