Principal's Message
Good evening, Abbott families, friends, and staff members!
I hope this message finds you all well. Believe it or not, there are only six short weeks left in first semester. Please log into Infinite Campus this week with your student to view your child's in progress grades. If students are missing assignments or need to make up or retake a summative assessment now is the time for students to reach out to their teachers to take advantage of these opportunities. Please continue reading this newsletter for information about our learning labs, MAPS testing, and information for our rising high school freshman.
Sincerely,
Principal Zugel
Learning Labs Have Started
For the last two weeks, our support staff team, our counselors and social workers, have started running learning labs twice a week during lunch periods. During learning lab time, students have the opportunity to complete missing assignments or summative work for their classes. Students are given a letter letting them know what missing work they still to complete so that they are able to use their time wisely during learning lab time. When students finish eating their lunch, they are able to go to the learning lab. While this is voluntary, we hope that our students take advantage of this opportunity and resource time. Please speak to you child about making use of this time, so that they are academically successful! As a parent, you can log into Infinite Campus to see if your students have any missing work or zeros for their summative assignments or tests. Please email your child's teachers if you have any questions about their grades. Teacher emails can be found on our Abbott website: www.u-46.org/abbott.
MAPS Testing
7th and 8th graders at Abbott will MAPS test when we return from Fall Break during the winter testing window. MAP is a test that adapts to your child’s ability level. As students respond correctly, the questions become more difficult, and students will receive easier questions when answers are incorrect. The objective of this assessment is not to get all of the questions correct; the test is actually designed for students to get 50% of questions correct. While your child is responding, the test is determining their instructional level. This is important information for the teacher and your child. Knowing what your child already knows, as well as what they are ready to learn is an essential part of the learning process; an authentic test experience from your child will provide that for all of us. Abbott students will take the MAP Test on November 29th and 30th with makeups occurring on December 1st and 2nd.
Attention 8th Grade Parents of Rising Freshman
Information meetings/open house will be held at the high schools for parents about registering their children for high school. Please see the flyers below for information.
