RISD Elementary Parent Newsletter
Week of 4/29/19
Message from Julie
Dear RISD Elementary Parents,
I hope you all had a lovely vacation, and have enjoyed our spring like weather (well, sort of...)
It is hard to believe that we are looking at May this week! WOW! The end of the year tends to be like parenthood (days are long but the years are short - haha) - but I expect it to move pretty quickly.
As you know, Ms. Amber is no longer at WES and we are so happy that she is being a stay at home mommy! Ms. Amanda, the SME admin assistant is moving over to WES, and at SME we are welcoming Crystal Cadwell, who is starting on Monday. Please help them all feel welcome! :)
We would like to congratulate Mr. Christie Maples and Mrs. Driscoll on their retirements at the end of this school year! They have both dedicated themselves tremendously to our schools and I know I am not alone to state how much we have appreciated their fantastic leadership, commitment to kids, and love of our schools. They are going to be big shoes to fill!
However, we are beginning the process of "filling those shoes", as well as filling the 3/4 Language Arts/SS positions at both schools. A committee of 5 teachers and I have been interviewing teachers and watching them teach a lesson at both schools. We have seen some extremely talented young teachers, and we are still interviewing and watching them teach. We will keep you updated as this process continues!
Speaking of hiring, the principal search committee is moving 3 candidates forward and I believe they will be visiting the schools on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will send out more information once I receive it. I am sure that they are going to be awesome and do wonderful work for kids. There will be an opportunity to meet the candidates, and the minute I know what time that is, I will get it out to parents. It is possibly scheduled for 6 on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that isn't set in stone.
Events:
4th grade Hulbert trip May 16-17 (looking for chaperones!!! - email me if you are interested)
Please return your Hulbert materials ASAP!

Summerscapes signups will be out the week after break. Mrs. Cole is planning Summerscapes, and is working on a solution for staffing. If you are interested in helping out, you can reach her at jcole@rivendellschool.org
We are looking for donations of rakes, trowels, etc. for some of our planting projects. Please bring any items in!
Similarly, if you have any balls/frisbees, etc that you would like to donate to our schools, we would love them! Now that the weather is nice, recess is much more fun!
Have a spectacular week!
Warmly,
Julie

Our students cannot access youtube while they are at school, so this shouldn't be an issue there. As always, we continue our diligence to safe internet access.
