Public Hearing for Working Cash Bond Sale
At the May meeting, the Board of Education approved an intent to issue bonds for the referendum construction of $9.4M. Due to rising interest rates, this step is happening earlier than originally planned. The revised funding plan shows details of the bond issuances related to the referendum construction.
During the public hearing, there were no comments during the community participation period. The Board will hold a special meeting on June 29 at 6:00pm at Attea Middle School to take action on the working cash bond issuance.
Superintendent's Communications
Each month, Superintendent Dr. Dane Delli updates the Board of Education and the community about programs, events, notable achievements, and other timely information and celebrations.
Retirement of Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Mary Geraghty
Dr. Delli shared appreciation for the tireless work of Mary Geraghty, who retires at the end of this school year. He expressed that her work to ensure that all means all in District 34 will have a lasting impact on students.
Equity Foundations: Supporting All Learners
Dr. Delli introduced TrueNorth Superintendent Dr. Kurt Schneider and explained that District 34, with support of TrueNorth, is building a multifaceted approach to our inclusive practices. Dr. Schneider shared information about how D34 can build equity foundations to support all learners. His presentation included the following topics:
- History of American School Systems and their Impact on All Learners
- Structural Supports Needed and the Aligned Research
- Funding and Policy Requirements
- Role of School Boards in Supporting Systemic Improvements
He showed the process to move from exclusion to inclusion, and commended District 34's ongoing work to move forward on that continuum.
District 34 Strategic Plan 2021-2022 Update
Members of the District 34 leadership team provided an update on the District's strategic plan, which has five goal areas:
- Student Success and Well Being
- Educator Growth and Support
- Parent and Community Partnerships
- Resource Stewardship
Dr. Delli explained that, even through the pandemic, the strategic plan guided the work of the District.
Community Participation
Community members are encouraged to attend Board of Education meetings and contribute during the community participation periods. In all regular Board of Education meetings, the Board follows a set agenda that include two opportunities for community participation. No community members spoke during either period.
Consent Agenda & Other Resolutions
The Board also approved a Board Policy update for kindergarten and an Illinois Elementary School Association cooperative team agreement that allows the District to participate in a wrestling program among Northfield Township elementary schools.
