Math Fact Tip!
Play "Hop To It". Have your student write each math fact that they are working on onto a large index card or sheet of paper. Spread the cards around the room. They can be scattered or along a pathway. It can also be configured like a hopscotch board. Then get moving! The student can move across the room by jumping on the fact and saying the fact out loud. You can also try dancing, twirling, or wiggling from math fact to math fact, whatever your child enjoys. This lets your child write the fact, see the fact, and say the fact, as well as get moving during these cold, winter months!
Literacy Tip!
Write together
"Making Books" is a favorite activity that we use in our kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms, but can be done with all grades. It can be as simple as folding white printer paper in half and stapling on the edge, or your child may choose to write in a notebook. Students can write about a topic of their choice, being sure to have an introduction, major events and a closing. Sit with your child and help them come up with ideas, and organize their writing in sequence. Other writing ideas include composing greetings together for birthdays and other special occasions, whether a card, letter, or email. Happy Writing!

Message from the District on Dismissal Procedures / Idling Cars
From time to time, the district receives communications from concerned citizens and neighbors about the negative impact of idling cars during after-school pick-up. In an effort to preserve air quality and reduce pollution, we request that parents/guardians turn off their engines when waiting to pick up child(ren) after school. We recognize that on very cold or hot days it will be necessary to intermittently idle vehicles; however, we request that this be the exception rather than the rule. Through a joint effort between District 47, the City of Crystal Lake, and the Crystal Lake Ad Hoc Clean Air Counts Advisory Committee, “no-idling” signs were installed years ago at District 47 schools. The City is a member of the Clean Air Counts Campaign--a regional private-public initiative of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, which was created to improve air quality in Northeastern Illinois. Thank you for your consideration.
