Crafting PLE

The Art of Creating Personalized Learning Environments

FMS Edition - January, 2016

Happy New Year!

Cheers to a new year! In looking forward to a great year ahead, now is a great time to set goals for yourself and your students. See the linked documents below (you'll need your GCS login) for some great ways to creatively set goals with your students and be sure to revisit these at the close of each quarter or whenever appropriate! Have a wonderfully prosperous 2016!

  • Reflections and Goals -- This tool asks students to reflect on the previous year and set some goals, for the new year.
  • Goals "Craftivity" (foldable template) -- The hands-on activity has students create a flip book with up to 5 goals outlining the steps to achieve that goal
  • 2016 Goals -- This tool asks students to list personal goals in a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 format.

PLEF Schedule

My schedule this year is:

Monday and Tuesday - Ferndale

Wednesday and Thursday - JSGS

Friday - WSA

Upcoming changes:

I will be out of town for a conference January 9 - 17. I may not be able to answer emails right away, but I will try to answer them as I can.

Ferndale Student Digital Leaders - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

We're starting a student tech team to assist with tablet issues. The intent is to have at least one person per homeroom who is the first line of tablet trouble-shooting. A lot of issues can easily be solved right in the classroom, if you know what to do. We want to train students to know this!

Student Digital Leaders will meet every other Monday in the Lower Lab during lunch. They will learn some basic and advanced troubleshooting, how to use various apps, digital citizenship, and other topics.

Meeting times will be (overlapped times will give incoming students a chance to eat):

o 6th – 10:50 – 11:20

o 7th – 11:10 – 11:40

o 8th – 11:55 – 12:20

HOMEROOM TEACHERS: Please use the survey below to submit the name of your student representative. A letter will be sent home with each, explaining this role to parents.

Homeroom Teachers please complete ASAP.

GCS and Amplify Will Part Ways

I'm sure that you have heard the news that we will not be using the Amplify tablet next year. Our time with Amplify has been great, but they're moving on to other things, and so are we.

I will answer any questions that I can when we have our PACE day on Jan. 19th during grade level meetings.

For now, it's time to start thinking about moving your Amplify Playlist elsewhere. The district strongly encourages you to use Canvas for this. We'll talk more about this on the 19th, also. Don't panic, though - Amplify is working on a way to make it as easy as possible to get all of your items from Playlist Builder.

Just For Fun

Formative Assessment Emojis

Formative assessment gives such valuable information about immediate student needs and informs instruction for the next day/week. Therefore, why make it a chore? Here is a fun way to make formative assessment something students look forward to!
