Parent Positive Presents...
Dear Families,
Please join me on April 5th when Dr. Robert Brooks presents Fostering Family Closeness and Respect. In his presentation, Dr. Brooks will describe factors that help families to experience greater warmth and respect.
He will discuss the importance of:
- practicing empathy in order to understand and respond to each family member
- changing ‘negative scripts’
- establishing realistic expectations and goals
- becoming a charitable family
- disciplining in ways that promote self-discipline rather than resentment
- helping each member to feel special and appreciated.
Dr. Robert Brooks has lectured nationally and internationally to audiences of parents, educators, mental health professionals, and business people on topics pertaining to motivation, resilience, family relationships, the qualities of effective leaders and executives, and balancing our personal and professional lives. Dr. Brooks is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and has served as Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital.
This presentation is part of the ongoing Parent Positive Speaker Series hosted through the collaboration of the Central Bucks School District, CB Cares, the CB Family YMCA, and Doylestown Health.
Dr. Brooks’ presentation will be held in the Lenape Middle School auditorium and will begin at 7:00 pm. We anticipate time for a Q&A session.
Registration for this free event is encouraged but not required.
This program is appropriate for parents of elementary, middle, and high school aged children. Free babysitting for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade is available. Pre-registration for babysitting is required.

Lego Based Therapy
Adult facilitators provide feedback and coaching in real-time targeting skill development in the areas of cooperation, problem solving, reciprocal conversation, joint-attention, and flexibility leading to increased maintenance and generalization of skills to other settings.
Most importantly, Lego®-Club becomes a place where children identify with a peer group, build friendships beyond the confines of the club, and find a place where their peers and adult coaches understand, encourage, and celebrate their talents.
Groups will be run on Monday late afternoons/evenings for 1 hour per session for 8 sessions starting the week of April 3.
If interested in learning more about Lego®-Club and to sign up for our next session please contact Dr. Brittany Lyman at info@autismdiagnostics.com.
Boomerang Award
This year, Gayman will continue to accept nominations for the Boomerang Award, which is our way of honoring students who best demonstrate their own developmental assets. What are Developmental Assets? Students possessing a combination of “40 Assets” are typically most successful in school and in life. These assets have the power to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. For a complete listing of the 40 Developmental Assets visit: www. Search-institute.org.
April #25. Reading For Pleasure. Young person reads for pleasure most days of the week, either alone, with family members, or with friends. Boomerang nominations may be emailed to Suzanne Vass at svass@cbsd.org, or printed out and sent into the office.
