Shark Bites
Shaull Elementary School Newsletter: December 1, 2023
Principal's Message
With the weather turning much colder, please be sure to send your child to school with a coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf. We will have outside recess during the winter months, however if it becomes too cold, we will have indoor recess.
With recess in mind, we would like to provide an update on our GaGa Pit. We received a shipping update where it should be arriving any day! Once it's in and we have good weather, it will be installed on our playground. Our PE Teacher, Mr. Condran, will review how to play GaGa Ball in PE classes so that we can set our students up for success and good sportsmanship! At the button below, a quick video tutorial of how to play GaGa Ball can be viewed.
Report Cards on Mastery Connect went live this week as we reached the end of the first elementary trimester. Click the button below if you need information related to how to access your Parent Portal on Mastery Connect.
December brings several fun events for our students! We have our 5th grade Mini THON social after school next Wednesday, December 6. Please be sure to turn in permission slips by Monday. There is a $5 admission fee for this event. The following week, the Shaull PTO is having Parents Night Out, which is open to all grade levels but is currently at full capacity. We are excited to offer these events to our students and families over the coming weeks. They should both provide a fun and festive atmosphere for our students! Lastly, we have our Winter Social during the school day on December 22 beginning at 2:20 PM. Our wonderful room parents are working on the arrangements and activities for this memorable day!
As the Winter months are at our doorstep, we would like to provide a general reminder about health protocols related to student illnesses. If your child should experience an illness which is accompanied by a fever, the student must be fever free for 24 hours before being sent back to school. Masking a fever with fever reducing medication then sending them to school typically results in the student feeling ill during the school day and being sent home with a fever. Additionally, reminding all students of proper hygiene when coughing and sneezing such as covering their mouth when coughing or sneezing and washing hands afterwards will help us prevent the spread of colds and other illnesses. Please review the below button from the District Nurse page from the CV website. It explains when to keep your child home from school when symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, pink eye, rashes, and colds are present. Lastly, in the helpful documents section of this newsletter, CVSD's most recent Health and Safety Plan can be reviewed should there be any questions specific to Covid.
Thank you for reading this edition of Shark Bites. Have a wonderful weekend!
Respectfully,
Mr. T.

Eagle Spotlight!
Miss Wildasin has gone above and beyond to make this a fantastic school year for our daughter. We are constantly impressed with her care and concern for our daughter’s wellbeing. She is also a great communicator. Thank you, Miss Wildasin, for everything that you do! We appreciate you!!!
We wanted to nominate Mrs Donmoyer as an amazing teacher! Our son highlighted her kindness and caring attitude. As parents we appreciate how much she gets to know each student and the individual care she gives to each student! She sets a very high standard as his first grade teacher!
Portrait of an Eagle Bookmarks
Over the Fall months, we had our students in all grades participate in a bookmark creation contest. Students were to create a bookmark that best exemplifies what the Portrait of an Eagle means to them. Our winning bookmarks were created by Katelyn in grade 2 and Emma in grade 5. Below you can see the winning bookmarks and all of the finalist bookmarks! As you can see, our students did an amazing job illustrating what the Portrait of an Eagle means to them!
Next we will send the finalist bookmarks off to be created into one double sided bookmark for each Shaull student!

Crosswalk Safety for our Student Walkers
When walking to school in the morning and walking home in the afternoon, please use the crosswalk as shown below in green.
Please avoid the access road, parking area, and inner crosswalk when walking to school and walking home (in red).
Due to the amount of car, school bus, and school van traffic, it is much safer to utilize the complete sidewalk and crosswalk on the image shown here.
