Alkaline Earth Metals

What is it?

Alkaline earth metals are a group of elements in the periodic table with characteristics such as; somewhat reactive, shiny, silvery-white, ductile, and malleable. They readily lose their two outermost electrons making them a 2+ charge. They include the elements beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium.

Where can they be found?

Alkaline earth metals do not occur freely in nature. So, they are found in compounds with other elements.

What are they used for?

Alkaline earth metals can be found in:

  • construction equipment
  • airplanes
  • cement
  • fireworks
  • medical applications
