D103 Takes Precautions Against Coronavirus

Since the public announcement of the outbreak of the coronavirus, District 103 has been taking additional proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of its students and staff. D103 will be using a microbiostatic protectant on surface areas that will provide 90 days of protection against the spread of communicable diseases. D103's custodial staff is treating surfaces such as handrails, doorknobs, lockers, chairs, desks, and all other surfaces that students and staff may touch daily. They will continue to do this throughout the school year. This EPA-registered and USDA-accepted surface protection will greatly enhance all of D103s current disinfection practices.

Since the COVID-19 announcement in January 2020, the district has been in communication with the Regional Office of Education (ROE) regarding next steps. The ROE has been in contact with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and will be updating schools if there are any additional changes. In the meantime, the district continues to update our procedures in the event we need alternative plans. We will keep you informed regarding this process and any changes that may occur. We have created a coronavirus website page to help keep you informed.

As a reminder, the best way to keep yourself healthy from any sickness include:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home when you are sick

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

Thank you for doing your part in keeping yourself and everyone healthy and safe.
