Principal's Corner
We are so excited to see all of the progress our students continue to make each day. As you know, we are continuing to prepare for the transition to hybrid instruction for some of our students. This week, we will be communicating to our families any changes to instruction as we move into the 2nd quarter and hybrid learning.
Please remember that attendance counts! Make sure to communicate with our office, or your students teacher, any time your student will be missing instruction. Wednesday is a day of learning for students. Please make sure your students are connecting for their asynchronous instruction on Wednesdays.
We thank you again for your support and partnership as we navigate the transition to hybrid learning. Please know that our doors are open, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Allison Langridge
A message from the Superintendent
As one of the largest school divisions in the Commonwealth, I am so proud of how our teachers, administrators, staff, students, and community continue to navigate this remarkable time together. Far from perfect or ideal, we have continued to provide quality instructional services, social emotional connections, and meals to our students and families.
Below are this week’s division updates:
Highlights from the Week
We have completed 6 weeks of predominantly distance learning for our over 23,000 students. In two weeks, we will have completed our first quarter of this school year.
During this time of synchronous and asynchronous learning, the school and division-wide planning efforts in preparation for a transition to the Hybrid In-person learning on October 12th.
Among the most frequent questions we continue to receive from both staff and parents involve student scheduling adjustments, more clarification regarding detailed procedures and health protocols for hybrid, and contingencies for positive cases and quarantining. We are updating the current Return to Learn plan to include the most recent information and guidance. Additionally, this weekend we are finalizing an addendum that our staff has been working on for the past couple of weeks. While there will be unique site-based procedures and adjustments, this companion piece to the Return to Learn plan provides additional detail about what the model should look like in practice.
We appreciate your continued support and partnership as we move forward in our planning of this model along with the simultaneous implementation of distance learning. It is complex and we are trying to ensure that we best match our resources to the needs.
On Monday, September 28th, we will be sharing the latest updates with the school board in a special meeting. That meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. and can be viewed livestream or through ETV. Our report will continue to include progress, challenges, and adjustments relative to our planning for October 12th. Also, the aforementioned Hybrid In-Person Model addendum will also be highlighted during the report.

SCPS COVID-19 Dashboard
Just a reminder that we update the COVID-19 Dashboard each week SCPS COVID-19 Dashboard. The purpose of the dashboard is to provide our families and staff with an accurate summary of COVID-19 cases. In addition to including the summary of positive cases, we are also including the impact on students and staff in terms of required quarantining.

Distance Learning- Expectations, Tips, Tricks
NEW UPDATE
CFES now has a google form for parents that need tech support. Please click here to submit a request for help if you are having trouble with your device or staying connected.
- Attendance counts 5 days a week! Please make sure your students are engaging in their learning activities and meeting their teachers' expectations.
- It is important to create a quiet, distraction free learning spot for students at home. This helps minimize distractions and disruptions not only for your student but the other students attending class.
- Please ensure family members and household visitors are aware of the live sessions occurring. Adult language and conversations can be heard through the child's microphone and can cause a distraction. Wearing headphones with a microphone can help minimize what is overheard.
- Also, please be mindful of your student's camera as students can see what is occurring in the background.
- If you have multiple students participating in live sessions, please have them spread out. Lessons from one session can be picked up by the other session.
- If you are having trouble with Google Meet- please see this doc for Google Meet Tips
