link crew

Link Crew is a freshman transition program that helps incoming 9th graders make the adjustment to the high school environment. Link Leaders, 11th and 12th graders, help make this transition as smooth as possible. Link Crew organizes Freshman Orientation, a freshman-only day before the first day of school that provides the opportunity to meet other 9th grade students. It empowers students to make wise choices and helps prepare freshmen for a successful first day of school. Orientation includes a tour of the campus so new students have an idea where their classes are located. Link Crew also organizes academic and social events such as the Final Exam Cram session in December, A-lunch games and activities, and a back-to-school Freshman Pool Party.

All current sophomores and juniors can apply online using the google form.

If your student is taking Dual Enrollment, please be sure that they are registered for the spring session of their dual enrollment class. Your student can log in to their CGCC account to ensure that they are registered. If the student is not registered, please see Ms. Wiley in the Counseling office as soon as possible. Some dual enrollment classes are year-long so this might not pertain to your student. Payment for a spring course must be submitted by February 12th or the student will be dropped from the class.

The “Cinderella Affair” is an all-volunteer project supported by East Valley Women's League. It is their mission to make attending prom affordable for all high school juniors and seniors in Arizona, as well as make it an event in their lives to remember! The program was founded in 2002 to assist girls by collecting and distributing new and gently-used formalwear. Drop off your donations of new and gently-used dresses, evening bags, wraps and jewelry to the “Cinderella Affair” box in the CHS front office. Thanks for your support!

Boys State, a program sponsored by The American Legion, is a leadership action program where boys entering their senior year can participate in a practical governmental course designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of the state and local government. CHS can send three boys to the conference held June 3rd through June 9th at Northern Arizona University.

Please see Ms. Jaramillo in the College and Career Center for more info and an application. Students will be selected by a CHS committee and be notified by April 6, 2018.

Girls State will be held June 3-June 9, 2018 on the campus of University of Arizona. The Girls State program provides young women entering their senior year the opportunity to come together to study state government. It teaches them to understand that they are an integral part of the political process. It helps them realize they have a responsibility to make tomorrow a better time, the world a better place, and that this job is up to them. Girls State gives them the opportunity to live together under their own government, which is executed entirely by them, and to deal with problems as they arise. The cost is $100.00. CHS can send two girls to the conference.

Please stop by the College and Career Center to pick up an application. Deadline to turn in applications is Thursday, March 1, 2018.
