How squirrels got their name
Squirrels belong to the Sciuridae family, which includes tree and ground squirrels, flying squirrels, and chipmunks. Their name came from the ancient Greek word skiouros, meaning shadow-tailed. These rodent-like animals are often seen in city parks, Backyards, and woods drawing attention with their playful nature.

The size of the squirrles brain is about as big as a walnut.
There are squirrels that are white, black, gray, red and brown.
White squirrels are rare, and are mostly found in South East Asia and Thailand.
Squirrels can run at a quick speed for there little size, as fast as 20 mph.
A squirrel can survive even if it jumps from a height of 100 feet, with its padded feet.
Squirrels appetite and habitats
A squirrel has a very large appetite. In a week's time, it eats a quantity of food that is almost equal to its body weight.The squirrels of North America include tree squirrels, ground squirrels, flying squirrels and antelope squirrels. Most of these squirrels are arboreal, with most of their time focused in and around trees. Other squirrels remain on the ground for the most part, with their home being a burrow in deep soil. The common Red squirrel can have an all black coat. While the Kaibab squirrel has a all black body with a white tail. Both squirrels are found in coniferous forests.
