Words From Principal Smith
We did it! This will go down as one of the craziest school years in all of my years as a principal and educator. Instead of reminiscing on the challenges we all faced, I’d like to say thank you. Thank you for trusting in us with your child as we worked together to navigate all of the learning model changes. Thank you for your patience and grace as we reinvented how to manage a school day during a pandemic in order to keep everyone as safe as possible. Thank you for the countless times you supported your child through an unprecedented school year to show them love and compassion while still motivating them to do their best each and every day. You are champions in your child’s life and we couldn’t do this thing we call school without your support. Thank you Mustang parents! Enjoy your summer adventures and for those returning next year, I am looking forward to a new year where great things will happen. To our 8th grade families and students who will not be returning, I wish you the best and please know you will be missed. Have an amazing summer everyone and always remember to Dream Big!

Chromebook Collection Information
Below is information for Chromebook collection for students that attend school in the building, students that are virtual learners, and DLA students.
STUDENTS THAT ATTEND SCHOOL IN THE BUILDING
Chromebooks will be collected on Thursday, June 10. We will be collecting the Chromebook, bag, and the charger.
If a Student Forgets an Accessory?
If a your student is in 6th or 7th grade and they forget a Chromebook charger or bag, they will keep it over the summer and return it at the beginning of next fall.
If an 8th grader forgets a Chromebook, charger or bag, they have three choices:
- A family member could run it to school by 2:00 PM
- They could return it at the DLA and Virtual Collection Days (June 14 and 15 at OMS)
- Send an email to the Mobile Repair Center: HelpDesk@district279.org
VIRTUAL STUDENT DROP OFF PROCESS
Virtual and DLA students will drop off their device and other school materials during a car drop-off process at Osseo Middle School on June 14 and 15. Please see the attachment for more information.

Information for band & orchestra families
If your student was in band or orchestra at MGMS this year or in the last two years, this message is for you!
We are collecting instruments and music books June 1-4. Please look around your home for any instruments, books, or supplies you no longer need, or have not returned to school yet. Here are a few options to get those things back to us!
- Bring them to the main office anytime from 7:30-3:30
- Have your student drop them off at the MGMS music department
If none of these times work for you, please contact the instrumental music team.
If you are currently using a school-owned instrument to play in your ensemble, make sure to leave it at school, in your normal storage area. We will continue playing in class, but we want all instruments to remain in the building!
Please let your instrumental music team know if you have any questions.

What To Do...
ABSENCES
If your child is going to be late or absent from school, please call the school with the reason for the absence. The telephone call eliminates the need to send a note with your student when he/she returns to school. We would appreciate having the call between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Excused absences consist of illness, medical appointments, and family emergency situations such as a funeral. Oversleeping, missing the bus, or skipping school are not excused and are considered truancy.
MGMS 24 Hour Attendance Line: 763-315-7603.
APPOINTMENTS/EARLY RELEASE
A parent/guardian must send a note excusing their student from school. The student must bring the note to the Student Services office before school to get a pass. When it is time for the student to leave school, they must sign out in the main office. If a student does not have a note, a parent/guardian is required to come into the office with a photo ID to sign out their student. This procedure is in place to ensure student safety.

8th Grade Celebration
Students that Attend in the Building
On June 10 we are going to have an outdoor celebration. Students will follow their regular schedule for hours 1-4. At 12:06 students will head outside where we will have food trucks and games until the end of the school day. We are also ordering t-shirts for our 8th graders. The cost is $10 for the t-shirt and the food trucks. Please send your payment by June 1.
DLA Students
We won't be able to see our DLA students in person to celebrate but we wanted to find some way of including your child as they wrap up their time at MGMS. If you ordered a t-shirt, they can be picked up June 7-10 from 7:30-3:30 or June 11 from 7:30-4:30.
Car Parade for All 8th Grade Students & Families - DLA, In-Person and Virtual Students
On Friday, June 11 from 12-1 PM there will be an 8th grade car parade. Parents will meet in the St. Joseph parking lot and then at 12:00 you will have a police escort to Maple Grove Middle School. Staff will be cheering you and your student on as you drive through the parking lot.
Congratulations 8th grade class of 2021! We wish you the best in high school.

Free Meals for Kids

Picking Up & Dropping Off
Due to the amount of families choosing to drop off or pick up their child from MGMS, we need to make an adjustment to how you will line up to wait. The change is how you enter the lot. You will no longer be able to turn left into the lot as the line is backing up all the way to Hemlock Lane, blocking the intersection. Effective immediately, you will only be able to take a right into the lot. When you arrive, if the line is already at the entrance of the lot, please line up on the shoulder of the Westbound lane on Eagle Lake Blvd. To avoid having to turn around, please see the map below.
Thank you.
