FROM OUSD Superintendent Dr. Hansen
2021-2022 School Year
As we plan for the 2021-2022 school year, it is our intent to move towards a traditional instructional model while continuing to adhere to the safety measures required by the Orange County Health Agency and outlined in the OUSD Safety and Health Driven School Reopening Plan. We are continuing to experience positive trends with COVID-19 case numbers declining across Orange County while number of immunizations continues to increase with OUSD holding large scale vaccination clinics for our staff. We are asking that you fill out the Instructional Model Commitment Form indicating what model you prefer for your student(s). Models for the 2021-2022 school year include:
- Option 1: Traditional in-seat classroom instructional model, 5 days per week
- Option 2: Full day virtual classroom through the OUSD EDGE Virtual Academy
- Option 3: OUSD Home School (Grades K-8) or Independent Study (Grades 7-12)
It is important to note that the transfer from one model to another at the trimester or semester will only be considered by Educational Services Leadership if space is available.
The Model Commitment Form also includes a section for you to share any additional input on actions, services, or programs you would like to see facilitated for the 2021-2022 school year utilizing the COVID-19 Relief Stimulus Funds. We have received great input already from our LCAP Survey and Focus Groups yet, we want to provide an additional opportunity to capture all stakeholder feedback. Please indicate your instructional model preference by Friday, April 30, in order to help us plan efficiently.

VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING 1/13/21 6:00 - 7:30 pm **must Register below, click on the link**
Orange Unified School District embarked upon a District-wide Facilities Master Plan process to identify long-term demographic trends, assess current facilities conditions, and envision educational program opportunities to develop strategies that address these needs, and their impact on facilities, in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner.
As a District, we value our stakeholders and understand that an effective Facilities Master Plan must be informed by community input. We encourage our OUSD families, staff, and residents to join our Virtual Town Hall Meetings to provide invaluable feedback on the long-range conceptual school site master plans and prioritization of proposed projects to bring forward to the Board of Trustees as a recommendation.
LPA Inc. and the OUSD Leadership Team will present each Elementary School and Middle School long-range conceptual school site master plan.
OUSD Communications Teams will outreach to the Community-At-Large through social media, local publications, and school site databases using the attached flyers; flyers will be also be sent translated in Spanish.
Please join the conversation to make your voice heard!

DROP-OFF
At La Veta all students will begin their day at 8:15 am. The gates will open no earlier than 7:50 am for those students who would like to pick-up a grab and go breakfast. Our lunch tables will have proper social distance markers and we will have support of our team members to make sure students are following guidelines.
Once you drop your child off, they will enter through one gate which is located to the left of the front office. We ask that families remain in the car and drop students at the curb so they may line-up to enter campus. We will be greeting your children making sure they have a friendly face as they enter each morning. Once students are on campus, they will then head to the black top in the back of the school where their class meets each morning. The students will sit on on the clearly outlined space and wait for their teacher to pick them up at 8:15 am. After the entire school completes the morning Pledge of Allegiance students will then head to their classrooms.
PICK-UP
Very similar to the morning drop-off, we ask that all families remain in their cars as we help the students make their way to your location. We have staggered releases which will help with the flow of traffic. If you have multiple children to pick up, we ask that you not park curbside and block traffic.
BE PREPARED EACH DAY
Teachers will be managing several modalities of instruction. It is very important to be prepared with the proper materials and to send the following items with your child EACH day if they are returning to on-campus instruction:
- Backpack with Workbooks
- Device, Charger and Headphones
- Water Bottle (no water fountain access at school)
- School Supplies (i.e. paper, pencils, crayons, etc)
MEAL DISTRIBUTION
*Lunch counts will be collected on the day before each distribution*
Breakfast - Grab and Go style set-up near the lunch tables
Hybrid Students Lunch - Grab and Go style as they exit campus
Full Day Lunch - Lunches will be delivered to the students classrooms and they will then take their lunch to their assigned eating areas

Will face masks of coverings be required for all students?
Students in TK through 2nd grade are strongly encouraged to wear a mask, however, OUSD will be providing a face shield for each child in TK through 2nd grade to wear while at school. Your child MUST return to school with this each day. Please clean the mask properly each night. Students in grades 3 through 6 are required to wear coverings/face masks each day. Students are expected to wear face coverings while in the classroom, recess, lunch, and entering/exiting campus. Students will only be able to take off the face coverings/masks and eat or drink at breakfast, recess, or lunch.
Will students need a device every day even if they are returning to school full day?
Yes, ALL students will need to bring a device from home to school every day. If your child is using a personal device or desktop computer, you will need to check out a device from OUSD. This is available Monday through Friday from 12:30 - 3:30 pm in Building J. Please handle this as soon as possible to be prepared for your child's Phase II return.
Will we have health screenings for students entering campus?
Health screenings will be done by parents at home. Staff will do a visual check for symptoms and check for face coverings/masks while students are entering campus.
