Middle child health concerns

Hearing
- Hearing usually well developed
- By 11 years most have auditory awareness of adults
- Ear infections common
- Left untreated it could leave lifelong damage
Vision
- By age 6 starts reading
- Can see any object with both eyes at same time
- Many are Farsighted or Nearsighted
- Close up vision improves
- More time being engaged in reading/close up work
- Greater chance of being nearsighted
- With glasses this can be overcame
- 25% will have their vision corrected
Teeth
- Begin to lose baby teeth
- 1st teeth fall out from central incisors
- By age 12, 20 primary teeth are replaced
- By permanent teeth
- Teeth may grow out of proportion with face
- Facial bones will become large
- Face length and mouth to widen
- This will cause permanent teeth
- Tooth lose may make them uncomfortable/ self-conscious
- Tooth decay common
- Children with poor hygiene most likely have cavities
Obesity
- Common problem
- Characterized as excessive body fat
- This person weighs 20% more than others(same sex, age and build)
- Affects 25% of school age kids
- Cause emotional problems
- Often teased
- Lack of self esteem
- few friends
- Some obese kids have over weight parents
- My be inherited
- Others an environmental factor
- Watch tv etc more than others than physical activities
