Principal Search Committee
As you are aware, Mrs. Linda Balfour will be retiring after serving as the H. Olive Day School Principal for the past 30 years. Mrs. Balfour has provided strong, child-centered leadership to the school and to the district throughout her career in Norfolk and her vision and expertise will be missed. At this time we are in the process of establishing a screening committee to review applications, interview candidates and support the district in selecting the new H. Olive Day School Principal. We are seeking two parent representatives to serve on the search committee. If you are interested in participating in the search process, please contact me directly at 508-532-1225 or through email at allardi@norfolk.k12.ma.us by Weds. March 22nd. The district will also be hosting a parent focus group that is open to all parents in the community who wish to share their feedback and perspective on the qualities, skills and experiences they feel are most important in a candidate for principal. Information about the parent focus group will be sent out shortly.
Communication
The Norfolk Public Schools value the importance of communication and partnering with families in order to provide the best possible education for all of our children. If you have any questions about your child’s education, please reach out to our school staff. Click here for information about who to reach out to with questions. Please note that information shared on social media or through other sources is not always accurate and we strongly encourage parents/guardians to reach out to the schools if you have questions or concerns about school programs, policies or events.

Accessing your child's report card and upcoming conferences
REPORT CARDS:
This Friday, March 17th, you will be able to access your child’s Term 2 report card via IPASS (see information below on how to log in). Report cards for students in Grades 1 through 6 are issued three times a year: December, March, and June. For students in Kindergarten and Preschool, report cards are issued two times a year: January and June.
Report cards give parents a general overview of how their child is progressing toward meeting end of year expectations. At the beginning of the year, when skills are just introduced, we expect our students to receive an academic performance level of a “1” or a “2” on the standards that students are still learning; a “3” might be given if a standard was fully introduced and the student has had opportunities to demonstrate mastery.
Special Education Progress Reports are distributed at the same time as your child’s report card and reflect your child’s progress toward the goals and objectives stated on his/her IEP. This marking term, progress reports will be mailed home on Friday, December 2nd, via the US postal system.
Click on this link for an Overview of Standard Based Report Cards and Special Education Progress Reports.
CONFERENCES:
Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for next week and offer a wonderful opportunity to share information and partner to support your child’s success both inside and outside of the classroom. Parents, children and teachers all benefit when there is a strong, positive relationship between home and school. Children feel more confident and secure when they see their parents and teachers working together. Parents and teachers benefit when there is a strong line of communication and they are able to share information and work together to support children’s success.
Click on this link for a few quick tips on how to build a strong relationship with your child’s teacher.
