Key Leaders
George H. W. Bush was the president of the United States of America from 1989 to 1993. Known for this campaign slogan, "Read my lips, No New Taxes!" However this was a bust because taxes were added to bills that he wanted to pass as well. Democrats made it a lose lose for him. He is most well known for handling of Saddam Hussein.
Bill Clinton was the second president of the 1990's decade and was in office from 1993 to 2000. Clinton is well known for this affair while in office, and important laws before the reelection of 1996.
Saddam Hussein was the iraqi president for this entire decade. After years of turmoil, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait claiming it was part of Iraq. The United Nations set a deadline for Iraq to leave, but were ignored and forced to send troops to solve the issues.
Released from jail in 1990, Nelson Mandela became a very influential figure of peace in South Africa and around the world. He was elected president of South Africa in 1994.
Laws and Court Cases
several Acts passed during this decade. The Americans with Disability Act allowed many disabled americans to keep their jobs and win in law suits. In Harris V. Forklift Systems a better road was paved for a safer work place concerning sexual harassment. St. Mary's Honor Center V. Hicks helped with discrimination because Hicks accused the institute of firing based on race.
National Defense
The Persian Gulf War took place from August 1990 to February 1991. Hussein invades Kuwait and we respond based on oil production needs and need to remove Iraq from Kuwait. The Cold war came to an end in 1992 causing the Soviets to fall in power. The World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 from the parking garage killing six people and injuring thousands others.
Technology
With computers becoming far more popular and common, the popularity of CD's expanded. The Java platform was created and used in many tech items. The GPS, DVD, Mp3, and cell phones were also becoming more useful.
Entertainment
this decade focused around family friendly movies and television shows such and Jumanji and Forest Gump. Some award winning musicians included Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, and Janet Jackson. sports have been and will continue to be a past time of America. Some athletes such as Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Gretzky were some very well known players. Many 1990's athletes still play today.
Lifestyle
Mens fashion was flannel shirts and denim jeans; while female fashion was neon colors, leather jackets, and cowboy boots. Hairstyles were usually straight, with guys having a common bowl cut and girls taking after famous celebrities or singers. The average salary of the 1990's ranged from 21,000 to 36,000 dollars.
