Off Routine
I recognize the challenges that come with taking our students (and ourselves) off of our routines. The resources and the recess, even lunch, may be at a different time on many of these May days. My advice is to plan and over-plan. The critical thing is targeted, engaging instruction. This is also a time to use some of those Mindfulness Brain Break videos and activities to help your class refresh between lessons. This is also a time to be especially mindful of the importance of close monitoring of students. As adults our stamina can start to wane, but we have a responsibility to provide a smart, safe learning environment for all of our students. Our grade 3-5 teachers still have two assessments and re-takes to prepare for. Our K-2 teachers are administering PALS and completing Number Sense Checklist tasks. Every teacher in the building has a lot to accomplish in these last 19 days. This is our work until June 10 and field day--we our teachers and if there is time to teach, we teach.
