MCAS INFO
For staff that will be administering MCAS (and administered last year at Dunning):
School and district staff who had access to PearsonAccess Next (PAN) during the previous school year should log into PAN to make sure their accounts are still active. If you are able to log into your account successfully, no further action is needed at this time. Accounts that were automatically disabled will receive an error message upon log-in; resetting the password will enable the account.
* For staff that are new to Dunning this year, you will soon be added to PAN if you will be involved in MCAS testing. You will receive an email regarding password setup once you've been added.
REPORT CARDS
All classroom teachers should have received envelopes and parent sign off sheets last week. Please put one sign off sheet in with each report card going home and remind students that these sign off sheets need to be brought back to you. You keep track of who did/did not return the form and contact the parents after the amount of time that you determine necessary.
Any child who needs duplicate envelopes please let Shannon know and she will get those envelopes to you.
Please be aware that if you have an EL in your classroom, they have separate ELD report cards generated by their ESL teacher. These will be in your mailbox no later than Thursday morning of next week to be included in the envelopes to go home with the traditional classroom report cards.
Also, special ed needs to include progress reports with the report cards. Please do not seal report card envelopes without first checking with the special educators.
All of the REPORT CARDS ARE DISTRIBUTED to students to go home in their backpacks on FRIDAY JAN 25,2019.
aseop
Please follow these procedures for absences.
If you are going to be absent for any reason, your absence must be reported in Aesop. http://www.frontlinek12.com/aesop All staff, regardless of your position or whether or not you need a sub, must have their absences recorded in Aesop. As soon as an absence that requires a substitute is in Aesop, it is open to any sub who wants to take the position. Therefore, if you have an upcoming absence and wish to request a specific sub, you should not input your absence in Aesop. If you would like to contact a substitute yourself to ask if they can cover for you, please feel free to do so. If you find someone who wants the assignment, Donna can input your absence and assign the substitute in Aesop. If you know you are going to be out with at least a few days ahead to plan, please fill out a pink slip with Donna. She will attempt to secure a sub and out it into Aesop for you.
If you are going to be absent for any reason call Michele at 508-400-3835 if it is outside of school hours. Please call, do not text. This includes sick, personal, comp, and professional days. If you've already been approved for professional days (i.e. MTSS, CPI training, etc.), you do not need to call to report the absence.
Please do not call past 11 PM in the evening and no earlier than 5:00 AM in the morning. Make every effort to speak to Michele over the phone. If she does not answer the phone, please leave a message.
If you are sick during the day and require a substitute for the following day, please talk to Michele. If Michele is not available, please let Donna know before day's end.
If you are going to be out for multiple days, please call the school to speak to Michele during the school day.
If you know in advance that you will be out (doctor's appointment, personal, comp), please talk to Michele first, then fill out a pink form for Donna. She will try to secure one of our preferred subs. If she is unable to secure a sub, she will put the absence into Aesop.
If you do not need a sub, once you've reported your absence, then you may log your absence into AESOP. Be sure to check the "sub not needed".
panorama survey
The district will be sending a letter to families regarding the Panorama Survey. It will include a link to high level data from last year and the date for an upcoming information session. The hope is that by hosting an information session, families will be able to get answers to questions and be provided insight on the survey, perhaps even increasing the completion rate.
The planned testing dates are February 1st - March 8th.
recyling
The green bins are for plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, plastic materials such as bubble wrap, etc. NO paper or cardboard at all.
Please make sure that students know what they can and cannot throw into the blue and green bins.
Thank you for your help with this.
YOU ARE SPECIAL NOMINATIONS
collaboration/plc schedule
BAS
Please make sure to have all your BAS scores on X2 by Friday January 25th. We will need to use this data for our upcoming data chats.
BAS on X2
For every student you tested, please put their instructional BAS score in X2.
If you happen to also find a student’s independent score, please enter that in X2 as well.
If a student moves from independent to hard (e.g. Level C is independent but Level D is hard), please put the independent level, accuracy, and comprehension score in both the independent and instructional columns.
data chats
We will be having the second round of data chats on the following dates: Thursday 1/31, Tuesday 2/5, Tuesday 2/7, and Thursday 2/17. We will be looking at the following data: BAS and iReady (math only). We will be looking at both achievement and growth. Our goal is to look at your class as a whole to identify patterns that can inform Tier 1 instruction.
BAS
Please bring a printout of your most recent BAS scores identifying students per the following:
- Green = at or above benchmark
- Yellow = less than one year below benchmark
- Red = more than year below benchmark
Please identify students who have not moved at least two text levels.
iReady
Please bring your class diagnostic growth report for math.
Coaches will be a part of the data chats. Here is the schedule:

FIELD STUDY STUDENT/student teaching
Beth Last, Dunning parent, will be doing her student teaching at Dunning in Maura's class, starting this week.
Please welcome them both to Dunning.
access testing
- All of our ELs will be tested. ELD teachers, please let teachers know when you will be taking their students for testing (for students on your caseload).
- We will be testing in many areas of the building. Please note the signage and be respectful in the halls. Please don’t go into the cafeteria if the doors are closed.
- We will need to borrow some chromebooks from classrooms for testing. We hope to minimize the disruption to your instruction when doing this. We will notify teachers if we are borrowing your chromebooks.
- If you are a classroom with 1-1 chrome books, please have your students take those for testing, that way we can minimize the use of borrowing from other places.
- Any and all students that have headphones should take their headphones with them. We only have 14 headphones with microphones that we use for speaking, and we will need to keep their use restricted to the speaking test.
- With regard to using the library for testing, Jaimie is working working on schedule. If we do end up needing it, it will be in the once or twice in the afternoon toward the end of January.
MCAS Practice Tests Updates
Blank CBT Response Boxes Now Updated
Blank CBT response boxes, which allow students to practice answering constructed-response questions using TestNav, have been updated. For ELA and STE, students can answer the constructed-response question and use the blue arrow at the top of the screen to submit a final answer. Educators can then view the student response and print the screen to review students’ work (this is the same functionality as in the practice tests).
Calculators are embedded in the Mathematics and STE response boxes for the grade levels where a calculator is required during MCAS testing.
CARE & SHARE
Please remind your students to bring in items for Care & Share. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving. As an added incentive, the class that brings in the most each month will earn 15 minutes of extra recess on the new playground!
