Knightly Update January 10, 2021
Edition Vol 9 Issue 22
Hello. I appreciate everyone's hard work this week as we transitioned to virtual instruction. I understand the various perspectives families have, and I thank our school community for the way we have positively worked throughout this year. Continue to stay informed by reading all district and site emails as they are received.
Tomorrow, January 11, new families may begin submitting open enrollment applications to attend ACP HS (currently ACP-Erie) next year. Current ACP-Erie and ACP-Oakland students do not need to submit open enrollment applications. The registration process (i.e. course selection) for our current students and incoming freshman from ACP-Oakland will begin in the next few weeks.
Please know that open enrollment applications need only be submitted by families that will be NEW to Arizona College Prep and DO NOT reside in the established boundaries for our new school. First and foremost, families can now submit their open enrollment application via email. If you have a sibling that does not currently attend ACP, please submit your open enrollment application electronically. Likewise, if you are aware of families that are interested in attending ACP HS and they do not live in the assigned boundaries, please encourage them to submit their open enrollment application and, if required, corresponding paperwork via email to our registrar, Ms. Bastidas. While the preferred method of submission is email, families can also choose to drop off their open enrollment application to any CUSD secondary school. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
As we continue teaching virtually this week, it is critically important that families continue to report COVID positive cases or testing to our school health office throughout virtual instruction. Please call or email our nurse, Mrs. Hughes to report positive cases or testing results as soon as you are aware. Thank you for your continued attention to this expectation.
As you know, we offered two days last week for students to pick up textbooks, novels and other materials from our campus. If you were unable to attend last week's book distribution, please contact the office. We will set aside the materials for you or your child to pick up. I want to thank our bookstore manager, Mrs. Arceo, for organizing last week's textbook distribution so quickly. Job well done!
I hope everyone has a very nice week. As you know, students are slated to return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 19. There is no school on Monday, January 18 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As always, please contact me if you have any questions. Enjoy the week.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Virtual Learning Attendance Procedures
Reporting your child’s attendance for virtual learning is not much different than on-campus learning.
Reporting Your Students Absence: If your student is unable to attend class for the day, or for a period of time during the day, you will need to call the ACP-Erie Attendance Line at 480-424-8003 to report your student’s absence.
- Contacting a teacher will NOT substitute for notifying the office. You must call the Attendance Line to report each absence (for the day or specific period).
When do I Report an Absence: Ideally your call to report your students absence should be done first thing in the morning (between 6:00am – 8:00am), so that their attendance is documented for teachers to see. If you call out your student later than 8:00am their attendance will be documented in a timely manner for teacher knowledge.
Reporting a Late Absence: Parents must call the Attendance Line (480-424-8003) within 24 hours of a student’s absence from school.
Unreported Absence: If your student did not engage in ‘live’ distance learning and we have not heard from the student’s parent/guardian, they will be marked as an ‘unexcused’ absent. If your student completes & submits “said teacher assignment” (this may be different by class) within 48 hours, the ‘unexcused’ absence will be changed once the parent contacts the attendance office either by phone 480-424-8003 or email, mccaulou.jacqueline@cusd80.com. Attendance changes may take up to 24 hours based on the time of submission by the parent.
Technical Difficulties: Should your student encounter a technical issue, i.e.: WiFi, and is unable to participate in the ‘live’ Distance Learning class period, the parent/guardian will need to email the students teacher(s) and Cc the Attendance Tech., mccaulou.jacqueline@cusd80.com, sharing that the student is having technical issues. Attendance will note that a technical issue has occurred and that the student cannot participate for the current class period or day.
For additional attendance information and to familiarize yourself with CUSD & ACP Attendance Policies, visit the ACP Erie attendance website.

Updated Face Mask Guidelines - A reminder
The Arizona Department of Health Services Emergency Measure 2020-04 (Slowing the Spread of COVID-19 in Schools) “mandates that masks are worn on school campus, on school buses, during school-associated activities, and while participating in or observing any school-associated athletic activities, by all students, faculty, staff, contractors and visitors.” This Emergency Measure cites Center for Disease Control research that supports community masking to reduce the spread of COVID-19. In compliance with this emergency measure, face masks are required on all CUSD campuses for all students, staff, and visitors ages 2 and older. Furthermore, the Emergency Measure specifies that an acceptable face mask should completely cover your nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides of your face without gaps.
As a result, beginning this semester face shields will no longer be an acceptable face covering for students unless a medical exemption is provided by a licensed healthcare provider and is on file with the school site. Staff will ONLY be allowed to utilize a face shield when necessary for specific classroom instruction and where they are able to socially distance from students and staff.
