Senior Spotlight - Tyler "Jay" Keeney
We are super proud of Jay Keeney as he will graduate in May from Weatherford High School with plans to go to Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf in Big Spring to study Deaf Education. He would someday like to be a teacher for the Deaf and/or supervisor of a Regional Day School Program for the Deaf. He is very active at Weatherford High School. Jay works weekly at Wright Elementary in the Brazos RDSPD classroom to support and mentor to the DHH students he serves. He has also been actively involved in Deaf, Deaf World and Imagination Texas Special Weekend for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In his free time he enjoys dancing and socializing in the Deaf community. Jay is an enthusiastic learner, compassionate person, and dedicated to contributing to the Deaf community. Congratulations, Jay!!!

SPOTLIGHT ON THREE I CAN! PROGRAMS
I would like to spotlight three of our many exciting transitional programs for our high school-aged participants!
I Can! Gear Up for College is a FUN week-long college preparation program where they will be coming together to learn how to grab every opportunity to get ahead in college while making the most of their future college experience!
I Can! Code, another one of our week-long programs, is FULL of opportunities to learn about coding, and will be involving drones, video gaming design, programming, and much more!
I Can! Learn STEM, a DeafTEC funded program, is for those who wish to explore their STEM passions, to possibly become a famous marine biologist, a talented engineer, or something else just as fabulous! A visit to NASA and other two colleges will be included too!
PICTURED: I Can! Learn STEM participants visited Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi and received a private tour of the workings behind-the-scene to learn about marine biology.
To learn more about our many camps and programs, please visit TexasDeafEd.org/SP. If you have any questions or would like to receive a hard copy of the 2019 Summer Camps & Programs Booklet, send an email to Rachella Moore, Summer Camps & Programs Coordinator at Rachella.Moore@tsd.state.tx.us.
