2020 Vision
The Peruvian churches show great enthusiasm for things of the Lord, but have little knowledge. Churches are founded only to die. Some
The answer is not the establishment of more American churches with American-trained leaders, but training Peruvians to lead and establish churches, and to teach other Peruvian leaders. Only in this way can the church in Peru thrive.
The goal of our ministry is to see stable churches, built up in God’s Word, with trained Peruvian leadership. We have worked in different ways to achieve this goal, first with Mobile Bible Institutes, then with the Seminary, but our purpose is to establish, protect, and edify Peruvian churches with Peruvian leadership.
The conferences will start off with a Bible conference. In partnership with the Bible League - Liga Biblica in Peru, we will be distributing and teaching leaders how to use La Biblia Devocional de Estudio (The Devotional Study Bible.) Many Christians, including pastors, do not have a Bible at all, and many who do have it cannot understand it. This conference will provide an intense training in use of this Bible.
Conference themes will include The Christian Family, Homiletics for Teachers and Pastors, Basic Bible Study, Establishing a Sunday School program, among others.
We will be coordinating the teachers and conferences, as well as teaching in conferences.
At the end of three years of conferences, students interested in further study can start a Bible College or institute. Partner missions will provide teachers and courses. Our goal is to have 20 new Bible Colleges in 20 Peruvian cities by the year 2020.
Big plans
We came to the States last February with some very big ideas. We were pretty confident that these new big ideas were from God. Everything worked together. Other missions, people, and churches were seeking us to work with them. The projects all went together. And they were all working in the field of leadership training–where we are called. Doors were opened that had been closed. All of these various entities shared this same vision, and everyone we talked to in the States sounded positive.
There was just one problem. How much more money was needed. Especially how much of that money needed to be in regular monthly pledges. Eighty percent of it needed to be in monthly pledges, and the amount was 300% of what we had been averaging in monthly support. We needed close to $70,000. and $5,000 for Bibles. We didn’t even feel comfortable sharing how much that amount was going to be. The Lord has already provided that–through churches, families, and individuals. According to missionary strategy books, that was the “difficult” money to raise. God has shown us that he is in this new work!
Now, closing out our year in the States, we are going back with a lot of needs met! All that we lack are one time or short term promises. Would you please consider giving to fill one of these needs?
Praises! and Needs
Starting a new ministry in Peru needed a lot of money. Praise God that He has already provided for:
- A full time secretary
- A larger, more modern apartment in a more accessible location
- Money for more travel (and we needed it for air travel, to cut back on the scary bus travel)
- Money to pay and train several new speakers for conferences/seminars
- Travel for the new speakers as well
- New computers and tablets to run the work, write, and teach with
- Money to start a literature ministry (to complement the conference ministry)
- Money for the higher cost of living from living in a big city that is a transportation hub.
WE STILL NEED
The hard part’s done! All we lack for the new plans are one-time or short term promises.
$3,000 – will buy equipment for seminar presenters. This includes projectors and laptops. The teams will include experienced Peruvian and international teachers and apprentice Peruvian teachers who will be learning the ministry.
$6,000 ($3,000 per year) – will pay a Peruvian coordinator for the two years of Phase 1. The logistics of this ministry could rapidly overburden us. Having an experienced Peruvian to handle this will keep it all on track.
$2,500 – will buy equipment for DVD and online training. We will also be able to meet requests to teach at locations in surrounding countries!
$6,500 – will set up headquarters for the organization. This will include home, guest, and office furnishings.
$500– will pay legal fees to set up the new organization in Peru.
$4,000 – unforeseen expenses. Planning for anything involves much more guesswork in Peru.
These could be given as individual one-time donations. (or a pledge given over the two years)
