Central Elementary
Learning. Creating. Succeeding.
Good Afternoon,
In order to better communicate some of the wonderful things that are taking place at Central Elementary I have created a monthly newsletter. Every month you will receive news, pictures and other information pertaining to our school. I hope you enjoy it!

Camp Copneconic
The entire 5th grade class had a wonderful time at Camp Copneconic. The students experienced a variety of team building activities and a lot of outdoor fun!
Character Assembly
The “Upstanders Rock” show is an interactive program that helps promote positive behavior and the concept that students should be “Upstanders” (not bystanders) to help promote a respectful and safe school community. Students volunteered to participate in energetic demonstrations to help illustrate the positive messages in the show.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
The first Parent/Teacher Conference for this school year was successful. Thank you parents/partners in education for your support. Over 90% of our parents were in attendance.
U of M v. MSU
Students and staff supported their favorite team by wearing either a Michigan State or University of Michigan shirt. Students also voted on who was going to win the rivalry by signing either schools' banner that was placed in the lunchroom. The Spirit Committee organized a “Tailgate” luncheon in the staff room.
Technology in Physical Education
Through a grant we were able to purchase The Heart Zone System. Students wear a device on their arm that can track their heart rate, distance walked/ran and several other statistics. All of that information is then projected on the wall for students to see. The system allows students to monitor their own progress.
ALICE Training
Central Elementary staff spent our first professional development late start in ALICE training. The Linden Community School Liaison Office Ken Engel, along with Grand Blanc School Safety Officers conducted an comprehensive ALICE overview. The officers answered questions and conducted drills. Teachers practice ALICE procedures and protocols.

PALS Fun Run!
The PALS Color Fun Run had a great turn out! It was our first annual Fun Run and the event raised money that will be allocated back to our elementary buildings.
Water Treatment Plant Visit
Our 5th grade classes visited the Fenton Water Plant. Each class spent about an hour learning how the water is managed. These trips coincide with their science water cycle unit.
Annual Coat Drive and Student Council "Soctober" Collection
We want to thank all our parents and students for their generosity. We were able to collect a lot of warm coats, socks and gloves. Because of your kindness we were able to assist many people in our community.
October's Students of the Month
New Student Luncheon
Earlier this month, Central Elementary's Social Skills Directer Mrs. Krystn Carriger hosted a New Student Luncheon. All our new students had the opportunity to visit together over lunch. Students interacted and shared information with their peers in order to establish bonds and build friendships.
