What’s Happening In Physical Education?
Welcome back Glen Grove students and parents! We enjoyed meeting a few of you at Curriculum Night and anxious to meet more of you as the school year progresses. We are off to a fabulous start in PE this year. It is always nice to see returning students as well as getting to know the new ones.
There are two full-time Physical Education teachers and one part-time Physical Education teacher. Mr. Preston Roberts and Mrs. Lori Marcotte are the full-time Physical Education teachers. They have been teaching together for thirteen years at Glen Grove. We have a returning teacher, Mr. Troy Cutler, who is acclimating well to Glen Grove. Mr. Cutler was a part time Physical Education teacher two years ago and Glen Grove is excited for his return! Mr. Cutler is eager to meet and get to know all of the students.
We started off the school year reviewing procedures, expectations, and learning the routines for PE class. We are encouraging students to eat healthy and stay active outside of school. If students make a healthy choice during mealtime they may color a fruit that we have attached to the PE Website. If students participate in 30 minutes of physical activity outside of school, they may color a “gym shoe” which is also attached to the website.
We started the year off with the Frisbee Unit. We will working on the skills of throwing and catching the Frisbee, as well as playing fun games of Ultimate Frisbee. Students will be given the opportunity to pick the field they are most comfortable with: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Next up is our soccer unit. Students will learn how to dribble, pass with various parts of their feet, shoot, and perform throw-ins. Students will learn when to use either a corner kick or goal kick. Students will engage in different stations emphasizing the different skills of soccer.
During the morning PE classes, the grass field is generally pretty wet because of the dew. Students’ shoes and socks may get wet so please feel free to have your children bring an extra set of shoes and/or socks. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please feel free to contact one of the Physical Education teachers. We look forward to working with you and for another exciting year in PE!

LRC News
Welcome back! Back to school means library books are coming home again! Students may check out 2 books for 2 weeks. They are welcome to return their books before the 2 weeks or renew them for another 2 weeks. If a student forgets a book, then he or she can check out 1 book until the second is returned. If a student forgets to bring both books back, he/she will not be able to check out until one or both books are returned. Why is this? At Glen Grove School, we want students to be responsible for their materials. Overdue books will not be fined. If a student can’t find a missing book, we ask that he/she pay for the missing book. If the book is found within the school year, we are happy to refund the money.
Students never have to have an overdue book again! At anytime they can check on any device what books they have checked out just by logging into the Alexandria Catalog.
Go to the Glen Grove School website: http://gg.glenview34.org/

Type district password (example: Gv93213)

The titles checked out and the due dates for each will show on the screen. If there are no titles showing up then nothing is currently checked out.
Are you interested in volunteering? The Glen Grove library is looking for people to help shelve books, organize the Celebrating With Books program, decorate the window displays and other special activities. No experience necessary. We will teach you all you need to know to help in the library. Volunteer once a week or once a month, it’s up to you! We welcome any and all help that fits your schedule. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Funke, the librarian at lfunke@glenview34.org or call the school at 998-5030.

Bus Rider Reminders
Transportation
All students are expected to have a consistent manner of getting home each day (bus, walking, car ride, and bicycle).
- Students may NOT change buses to go home with a friend.
- Students who live west or along Milwaukee (Castilian Court, Cove Lane, Dearlove Triangle) or in a designated safety hazard are NOT permitted to ride bikes or walk to school. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD and the reason that bussing is provided for these students.
If you have any question or concerns about transportation, please feel free to contact the Director of Transportation, ROB CONNER at (847) 998-5064.
Bus Safety Rules...
- Buckle Up. You must buckle your seatbelt immediately after sitting down.
- Follow Directions. You must respectfully listen to your bus driver and do what is asked of you.
- Be Respectful, Caring and Kind. You must never tease, intentionally bother, or say unkind words to others on the bus.
- Remain seated. The only time you should be up and walking is when the bus is at a standstill and you are entering OR exiting the bus.
- Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself. You should never be physically touching, hurting, playing, or play fighting with others.
- Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects Inside the Bus. Never put anything – not a body part, and not an object- outside the window of the bus.
- Food and Drinks Are Not Allowed While Riding the Bus
- Ride ONLY Your Assigned Bus & Get Off ONLY at Your Assigned Bus Stop. You may NOT change buses to ride to a friend’s house. A note from your parent is needed in order to get off at stop other than the one you are assigned to.
Consequences for Breaking The Bus Safety Rules...
The first time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus safety rule, you will write a reflection/apology and call your parent.
The second time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus safety rule, you will call your parent and write a reflection/apology during your recess period. Your assigned seat may also be changed at this time.
The third time you are referred to the office for breaking a bus rule, you will be suspended from riding the bus for a period of time. Being transported to and from school by bus is a student privilege, not a right, so if you consistently violate bus rules, you will not be able to ride the bus for a period of time. This means your family must find another way to get you to and from school while you are suspended from the bus.
