CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Knightly Staff Spotlight!
For more than a decade, Mr. Sam Dare has been teaching and coaching, impacting the lives of students because of a teacher in high school who relentlessly believed in him. “He showed me the value of education and the importance of hard work. From that point forward, I always wanted to be a teacher/coach. Out of anybody else, he impacted me the most,” Dare describes.
Dare played football in college as a four year starter and two year team captain at Mesa State where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education. Soon after graduation, he spent two years in Chile immersing himself in their culture where he learned to speak Spanish fluently and, upon returning to the United States, became certified to teach Spanish.
Dare briefly taught in another district before joining the Weld RE-4 team in 2012. Prior to joining the Silver Knight family in 2017 as part of the instructional leadership team, Dare taught Spanish and coached wrestling at Severance Middle School where he laid a foundation for student athletes built on “undying dedication and work ethic through accountability” which continues to grow and thrive in the SHS wrestling team today.
At SHS, Dare is the department lead of the world language department, a PE/health teacher, and the head coach of the wrestling team. In addition to these responsibilities, Dare chaperones dances, supports students by attending athletic events, and announces for the softball team. He is also continuing to grow as an educator as he progresses through a master’s degree in educational leadership.
Dare’s pride for the community of Severance and the community of our school is evident as he describes the difference between working at SHS versus other places: “The love that I have for the community [is different]. We have a ton of support from the community. Within the school, there is a lot of passion--our administration has passion and believes in what we are trying to build. Teachers bring passion and fun to their classes. All of this helps build a culture.”
It is sometimes said that the student is a reflection of the teacher, and Sam Dare keenly presents as a mirror of the high school teacher who impacted him that he speaks so fondly of: “seeing the ‘aha moments’ in kids in the classroom or in life; ultimately, that’s what keeps me going--kids seeing the difference that people are making in their lives and being changed because of it.”

Do you or someone you know need a SCHOLARSHIP?
Last year, thanks to donor generosity, 150 scholarships were awarded through the Foundation, totaling in excess of $815,00.
Do you know someone who should apply? Please feel free to send along this message.
The process takes a few hours to complete, but the main application is then used for many of the available scholarships, making the process easier for students. And, special note, we have scholarships available for graduating seniors, current college students, AND non-traditional students.
Here's to the good future of students in Weld seeking higher education!

A Message from Our Parents:
We are so excited to welcome back our amazing Silver Knights staff! We would love to show them our support all throughout the year by providing a variety of snacks in their break room. Please join us in this simple act of appreciation that they will enjoy any time they just need a little something....:)
We have around 85 staff members and the snack sign-up dates are set at every two weeks. Bring however many snacks you feel inclined to share. Partner with a friend or a group if you would like to! Office staff or parent volunteers will re-stock the jars and baskets with any overflow snacks throughout the two weeks as needed.
You may sign up for a date below and bring your snack donations to the SHS front desk on that day. Ideas could include: fresh fruits or veggies, granola bars, individual chip/pretzel/cracker/cookie packs, dried fruit bars or snacks, beef jerky, popcorn packs, mints, gum, seasonal fun treats. Please bring items that are NUT FREE just for ease of everyone's enjoyment. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
