Camp Wolverine
Our original note said we would be returning at 3. We have had a small change in schedule and we will be returning at 4:30 on Friday, Jan. 23. Please plan to have someone at Shay at 4:30 to pick up your child.
We will be leaving promptly at 7:30am on Thursday, Jan. 22. Students should be at school around 7:20 to get on the bus. Students will need a sack lunch and a drink on Thursday. It's also a good idea to pack a water bottle. The kids get thirsty from all the activities.
Please look for a for a note to come home on Tuesday with reminders for our overnight.
Also, kids do need a bottom sheet for the bunk bends. If you don't have a twin fitted sheet and sheet for a larger bed is fine and there will be plenty of adults there to help make the beds. If you don't have a sleeping bag blankets are fine too. Students will need a pillow. The bunk rooms are pretty comfortable at night so don't worry about your kiddo being cold.
Parent Teacher Conferences
I would like it if you child could attend this conference with you. If that's not possible because of work schedules or after school programs or sports that's fine, don't change schedules for the conferences. Or if you would rather you child not attend I understand.
Writing
We also worked on comparative and superlative adverbs. We review run-on and fragment sentences.
Reading
Math
This week we spent time reviewing more of those tricky word problems in preparation for our chapter test. The kids enjoyed a partner game using a die and a calculator to practice 2-digit multiplication. We finished off the week with the test. You can view your child’s test score on Think Central. The paper copy of the test will come home after students have had a chance to go back and look over any errors. Next week we will dive into division!

Playground Survey
Shay students have created a parent survey to gather thoughts and ideas for our new Shayground. If you haven't already done so, please take a minute to complete their survey. Feel free to copy the link and pass it along to other Shay/Harbor parents not in our class.
Learn to ski program with community schools
From Community schools:
We are once again teaming up with the Boyne Snow Sports Academy to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn to ski; a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime! This program is geared towards students who are at a beginner through intermediate level, and is currently just for skiing (does not include snowboarding).
This program starts January 21 (session 1 is Jan. 21 through Feb. 11, session 2 is Feb. 18 through March 4) Students will meet at the Boyne Highlands rental area at 4:15pm, to get equipment and lift tickets. Students will then have an hour long lesson from 5-6:00pm.
