What a Great Week We've Got Planned!
Some of you may have caught the obscure reference in the title of this bulletin to the text 5th graders will be finishing this week. I heard some grumblings from scholars last week that they are weary of exploring the character points of Aslan. Fortunately for them, this week they will be focused on "Plot: Action, Climax and Resolution." It will be an exciting week in the Land of Narnia, that is for sure!
Science
Our science program is off to a “light” start (light does travel at 186,000 miles per second)… Over the next couple of weeks we will be studying the physics of light.
From the reproduction of an experiment performed by Sir Isaac Newton some 400 years ago to pinhole cameras and the construction of a low frequency hard shell LASER, the students of room 315 will be launching into a great start of a new science unit.
Students will perform experiments and construct projects that deal with spectrums, reflection, refraction, diffraction, and simple optics. Several students will develop and perform their own experiments for class.
Sixth Grade Starts a New Book!
We will tackle expository text for the next two weeks with the book, "Phineas Gage: A Gruesome but True Story About Brain Science". Should be nice an gruesome!
Tis the Season
Winter has arrived. To stay safe and warm, the kids need to be wearing proper winter gear. The school policy is to have the students go outside unless the temperature goes below -10 degrees F. Frostbite is always a concern and hypothermia is a reality.
We realize kids lose their gloves, hats and even their jackets and it can be quite expensive to replace these items. If you are unable to replace or provide winter gear for your child, please call the school and we will do our best to help.
