Positivity Project: Gratitude
This week during P2, students will be working to understand Gratitude. Students will be working to understand that gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. Those that exhibit the strength of gratitude are more likely to show an appreciation for kindness and to extend kindness to others. Our Cheetahs are learning so much through their P2 Lessons each day, be sure to ask your students about their favorite character strength!
“For me, every hour is grace. And I feel gratitude in my heart each time I can meet someone and look at his or her smile.”

Happy Thanksgiving from Ms. Clark
Happy Thanksgiving!
I love this time of year. It encourages us to make sure that we have shared our gratitude with those who we appreciate. We wanted to make sure you knew that at HSES we are continually grateful for your child(ren) and the amazing families here. I wish you could see the students who regularly greet others with hugs and high-5's in the morning, those who help others with carrying items and holding doors, and that's just what we get to see before 9:20!! Though your mornings may be hectic getting out of the house with everyone fed, bookbags packed and on time, and getting babies up, we want you to know that you are doing an incredible job raising amazing little people who would make you proud, daily! Thank you for allowing us the privilege to work with them! We hope you and your family have a blessed holiday. Remember school is closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Take time to relax!
Join us for some winter fun!
Looking Forward: Next Saturday Makeup-December 7th
Carpool Information and Reminders
- Even if your child(ren) only go home via carpool occasionally (for example-Saturday School), it is helpful if you have registered for and use a carpool tag. Please register for a tag HERE if needed. There is no cost for this, tags are sent home with your student.
- Please review your carpool number with your student! Students are responsible for recognizing their carpool number as it appears on the screen in their classrooms and reporting to the correct color in the line. Please also remind your children that it is their job to report to their carpool color and not to a friend's.
- Please pull all the way forward in the line. Even if you see your student at another color. We instruct students to walk to their cars if they are not waiting at the color their parent pulls up to. This ensures that we can maximize the number of cars that pull through the line at a time.
- If your student has not reported to carpool on time and we have to call for them, please pull forward PAST the carpool loading zone to wait for them. Best practice is to pull up just past the curve.
- As always, our goal is to ensure student safety and to get everyone home in a timely manner. Thank you for your cooperation and patience! Visit this site to review all carpool procedures.
New Waterline Construction Set to Begin
The Town of Holly Springs is set to begin construction along School Days Lane next to Holly Springs Elementary School. The installation of a new waterline will keep the town’s water pressure steady so residents will not be affected by extra stress on the water supply when there is increased demand.
Survey work and other preliminary work may begin this week. Construction is expected to begin after Thanksgiving and could last up to eight weeks. Access to the road may be unavailable or limited during this time. Residents should be aware that heavy machinery and workers may also limit access to Jones Park, which is located behind the elementary school. Thank you for your patience.
PTA Information and Updates
O'Holly Night Tickets and a Helpful Hint!
Helpful Hint: If you choose to buy basket tickets on the night of O'Holly Night, bring along some small pre-printed labels with your name and phone number. These labels can be quickly stuck to the back of your tickets and will preserve your time (and hands) on Thursday night for family fun! Please remember to provide yourself plenty enough time to get your tickets labeled and in the boxes before the drawing.
We can't wait to see you there!

WCPSS K-12 Parent Site for Math
Parent Communication
We usually send a message to parents weekly and we want to be sure you receive it. The district only uses email/text (and not automated voice calls) to share non-urgent information with parents. If we don't have a current email or text number on file, you will not get this critical district message. Even more important, if your child gets hurt or becomes sick and we don't have updated numbers, we won't be able to contact you. Please reach out to our Data Manager, Annette Ligons in the office at aligons@wcpss.net to share any updates or send in a note to your child's teacher.
Volunteers
Volunteers are welcome at HSES! If you plan to volunteer, you must be approved using the guidelines below. Now is a great opportunity to come into the school and register! If you have any additional questions, please contact the front office.
- All new volunteer applicants must register and have an approved criminal record check prior to engaging in volunteer work.
- All continuing volunteers approved for the 2019-2020 school year MUST reactivate as a volunteer no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 31, 2019. Reactivating volunteers may go to any WCPSS work site where they can register through www.wcpss.net by selecting the Community tab, and then selecting Volunteer Registration. Current volunteers, who provide a valid email address, will receive an email 15 days and 30 days prior to the expiration of their volunteer status reminding them to reactivate.
- Guests: Visitors who are never left alone with students are considered guests. They do not need background checks. Typical examples would include speakers, presenters and community members/parents attending a school event.
- Volunteers: Visitors who may be alone with students at any point do require background checks. There are no "levels" of volunteer status. You are either a volunteer who may be alone with students or you aren't. Typical examples range from a community volunteer who reads with a child to an overnight chaperone, as well as field day workers, testing proctors, and volunteer coaches. The same background check is done for every type of volunteer.
