Message from the Office!
Dear Parents,
Attendance in the Classroom
At this time of year all teachers are trying to complete all of the required curriculum for the remainder of the school year.
This not only impacts your child's learning but also impacts the final assessments needed to complete year end reporting. This may result in insufficient marks if the teachers are unable to complete a full assessment of your child's abilities in some areas of the curriculum currently being taught.
Your child's attendance is of utmost importance.
Should your child(ren) require to be away, please make sure to contact your child(ren)'s teacher and the school office with the date(s) of your child(ren)'s absence.
School Fees in PowerSchool
School Fees are now due. Elk Island Catholic School District has started the collection process. To prevent further action on your account, please make arrangements for payment before the end of the school year.
Thank you
A huge Thank you to Parent Council for enabling our grade 5 students to go to the Children’s Festival in St. Albert.

Weekly Prayer
Dear Parents / Students,
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood amoung them and said, "Peace be with you."
After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
The Gospel of the Lord.

Junior High 2019 Exam Schedule & Permission to Leave After Exams Form
Dear Parents,
Please review the attached form below regarding the Junior High Exam Schedule and Permission to Leave After Exams Form.
Grade 7 & 8 students are to enter the gym at 8:50 a.m. to return textbooks and prepare for exams. Their exams will begin at 9:15 a.m. All exams are schedule for 75 minutes.
Study Hall will be provided in the afternoon for all students.
By completing the form below, students will have permission to leave school grounds after his/her final exams on June 19-26, 2019, provided all required assignments/exams have been completed.
You may also choose for your child to stay at school for the remainder of the day to attend the study hall after their exams.
Please Note:
It is imperative for office efficiency and security reasons that once you (the parent) and your child have reached your decision and signed this form, the decision is FINAL.
Either the students leave at approximately 10:30 am (or when they finish their exam) or they will stay at the school for the rest of the day to study for the remainder of the morning and to attend study hall in the afternoon.
In other words, students may NOT choose to leave after the exam but come back for study hall in the afternoon, NOR may they stay after the exam until lunchtime, and then leave for the remainder of the afternoon.
We are unable to accept last minute changes via texts, written notes, phone calls, etc. Please make sure that your child understands what is expected after the exams.
As well, please remember that if your child is staying at the school after their exam and for study hall, and they wish to leave the school grounds during the lunch hour they will still require the “Permission to Leave School Grounds” form to be completed each day. This form is located on the school website, as well as, the “Smore” newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact M. Morin at alyrem@eics.ab.ca or M. St. Jean at marcs@eics.ab.ca.

Linking Generations
Dear 2019-2020 School Partners,
Linking Generations is preparing for our upcoming 2019-2020 Volunteer Grandparent Program. I must share with you, that I am hearing many wonderful comments within the schools and within our community about this wonderful Intergenerational Program and the benefits to our teachers and students. I know that you and your teachers will enjoy the senior volunteer placements this fall.
Recruiting individuals to volunteer sometimes can be a bit difficult. If you could please insert a small notice in your school newsletters about our upcoming program in your school this fall, that would be wonderful. It will give parents a heads up about our program, however it may also assist us in recruiting our senior volunteers. I have included a small write that you may wish to use, along with Linking Generations logo ; if needed. Please feel free to make changes if necessary.
LINKING GENERATIONS will introduce The Volunteer Grandparent program at ( insert your school name) this fall! In readiness for this exciting program, Linking Generations will begin recruiting Senior Volunteers in May and June, who wish to connect with our students in our school classrooms. Seniors volunteers will enjoy the chance to share skills, knowledge & experience, while providing a valuable community service. The Linking Generations Volunteer Grandparent Program will work in partnership with Elk Island School Board and local groups to develop, place & support volunteers within the framework of the Grandparent Program. If you or a Senior Family member is interested in volunteering, please email Debbie Sinclair; Executive Director; Linking Generations at linkgendebbie@telus.net or check out Linking Generations website at www.linkinggenerations.ca
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Debbie Sinclair

Sacraments Dates
As the dates get closer for the celebration of the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation get closer, I have received a number of phone calls from parents who are concerned because they have “missed the chance to register their child.”
The preparation time for these sacraments is complete for this 2018-2019 year BUT you have NOT “missed” the chance for your child to celebrate these sacraments.
Please join us in the fall of 2019 ~ I promise they will not be the only child in grade 3 or 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion nor will they be the only child older than grade 6 preparing for Confirmation!
Nothing has been “missed” and what has been gained is the opportunity to prepare your child in a way that is unrushed and meaningful for both of you.
Please watch the Parish website at www.olph.ca under sacraments for our updates on sacrament information.
The registration dates in the fall are Monday, September 23 at 7:00pm at OLPH Parish for First Reconciliation and First Communion and Monday September 30 at 7:00pm at OLPH Parish for Confirmation.
We look forward to meeting you and your children in the fall! If you have any question please contact Raylene at 780-467-5470 or at ryuzyk@olph.ca.

FundScrip Fundraising
Dear Parents,
OLPH School Council has been using FundScrip for the last 5 years as one of the schools main fundraisers.
FundScrip, is a fundraising program that lets you raise funds simply by purchasing gift cards for your everyday shopping (i.e. groceries, gas, gifts and household items). When you purchase a $100 grocery gift card, you receive the $100 card, but in addition, a percentage is donated to our fundraising campaign. It’s like getting free money, where the only catch is you have to change your method of payment to using gift cards!
Please visit https://www.fundscrip.com/ to place your on-line order(s). To print off a paper order form, please click on the attached document below.
How to Support our École OLPH FundScrip Group
