HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome, Leon Florendo!
Get to know our new Wai'anae counselor, Leon Fuimaono Florendo!
Leon Florendo is a proud graduate of Wai'anae High School (class of '85) and Leeward Community College (spring '88) where he earned a degree in Liberal Arts and a Certificate of Completion in Human Services. In 1992 Leon earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He later went on to get a Master’s degree in Education Administration at UH Manoa in 2006.
Prior to becoming a the counselor at LeeCCW, Leon was a counselor for Native Hawaiian programs and services at Honolulu Community College for over 14 years. He also served as the Outreach Counselor for Honolulu Community College.
In addition to work, Leon serves on the Board of Directors for the Kalihi YMCA and Sariling Gawa Youth Counsel, Inc., which is a Filipino youth leadership organization.
Leon and his wife Heather are proud parents of twin 4-year-old daughters and a son who just turned one year old. One fun fact about Leon is that in the summer of 2001 he traveled to both the northern-most point of the United States of America (Barrow’s Alaska) and the southern-most point of the United States of America (Ka’u, Hawaii Island). It was an amazing experience.
