JFK Weekly Update
August 26, 2022
Welcome Back!
It’s hard to believe that the start of the school year is upon us. I hope you and your children had a fun and relaxing summer. In my household we were busy. We spent time at Santa’s Village in New Hampshire, Maryland at a family reunion, went to Yankee Stadium and saw a show in New York City, and had ice cream almost everyday! We had a wonderful time, but needless to say, it’s time for school to begin! I am sure some of you are holding on tightly to the last days of summer and at the same time many of you are ready for some structure in your lives. I need some structure so I have been setting my alarm clock fifteen minutes earlier every day for the last week!
Over the summer we’ve been busy at JFK: hiring, cleaning, ordering, and planning for the year to come – and wondering if this is truly the year that we return to “normal.” My opinion is that, in most ways, this will truly be a normal/typical school year with no restrictions on student activities or teaching activities. For instance, we’ll return to normal operation of the cafeteria, field trips, visitors, and school assemblies. Those activities are important for our overall school culture and help us build the community necessary for your children to feel connected.
I firmly believe that our job as educators is not to relieve our students of all personal or environmental barriers that the world presents (not that we could!), but to teach them to creatively engage with these barriers as a means of growth. That is our aim at JFK and our commitment to you and your children.
I hope that you and your children are excited for the new school year – for the opportunities for celebration and personal growth!
Sincerely,
Saundra Watson, JFK Principal
