Summer Office Hours 8:00-3:00 (Monday-Thursday)

This is our last e-Newsletter until August

Happy Summer

Today marks the first official day of summer even though students have been out of school for two weeks. We hope you're staying cool with the recent heat wave and enjoying the time with family and friends. Last year at this time our building was completely torn apart with construction projects. This summer we're happy to have very few projects as we prepare for another school year.

Last week you should have received a mailing with report cards, Iowa Assessment reports, certificates earned 2nd Semester, and extra pieces of information. If you did not receive your mailing please contact our main office.

We wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer. We also want to wish our outgoing 8th Graders the best of luck as they embark on their next journey. Take time to look through all the great pictures below that showcase a small portion of this class' accomplishments.

Back to School Night

For families of returning students please add the date for our Back to School night for Thursday, August 18. This night will still be used to get schedules, take school pictures, sign up for sports, drop off materials, and receive your locker information. More information will sent as part of our summer mailing in early August, but the times are 3:30-7:30. We're also planning on a hot dog cookout for all our Franklin families.

We look forward to seeing all our families.

2015-16 School Fees

Final statements for students who still owe district Consumable Material Fees for the 2015-2016 school year were mailed last week and included with student report cards. Payments can be made in person by cash or check at the Franklin Middle School Main Office. The link to pay the fees online has expired. Any outstanding payments will be forwarded to the district office and sent to collections.

2nd Semester Honor Roll

We are very proud of the hard work all our students did in the classroom. Please follow the link to A & B honor rolls for 2nd Semester

4th Quarter PARRT Awards

We'd like to congratulate the students who earned the PARRT Award for 4th Quarter. PARRT is the way we teach expectations throughout the building. This acronym stands for Personal Best, Active Listening, Respect, Responsibility, and Trustworthiness. At the end of every quarter we will distribute awards for students who have met the following criteria:

  • No grade lower than a C
  • No office referrals
  • Absent from school 2 or less days
  • No missing work
  • 3 or fewer late assignments

Certificates were mailed home last week. You can view the entire list of recipients by clicking on the following link:

8th Grade Student Message

Again this year we invited any interested 8th grader to submit a speech that would be the main message for our Assembly. We had three wonderful entries and decided to have each present theirs. This year's topic was How Adversity Builds Strength. Hannah Krejci, Cassandra Spooner, and Noah Loehr did a fantastic job summing up the growth and time of a middle schooler. A big thank you to each of them for their hard work preparing and prepping their speeches. See the link below for the link to their speeches.

Franklin High School 75th Reunion

It was our pleasure to host members from the Franklin High School graduating class of 1941. On Wednesday, June 1 Franklin opened its doors to welcome former Franklin students and members of the media for a trip down memory lane. Our Student Council graciously hosted our guests and led them through building tours, lunch, and a performance by our Washington D.C.-bound National History Day participant, Jessica Cline. This was an experience that was mutually beneficial as our students were able to hear first-hand experiences of students that once called Franklin home. Mrs. Dvorak led a question and answer session with her side of the cafeteria. We were honored to welcome these very special guests and were fortunate with the amount of media exposure it received. Be sure to check out all the stories below.
