Reminders about Grading

As we approach the second half of the second nine weeks, please be reminded of Killian's policy on grades and grading. See the below paragraph, taken from the 2015-2016 Faculty/Staff handbook.

Grading:

  • Assessments for K-5 must be aligned to the 2015 South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for ELA and Math and the South Carolina Academic Standards for Science and Social Studies.

  • Grades should only be assigned for work completed. Please do not give students a grade for not returning a paper that required a signature, items not brought in for teacher/class, inappropriate behavior and/or lack of participation.

  • No grades should be given for an assessment of material not taught by the teacher. (pop quiz/homework).

  • No grade below 60% should be recorded for averaging in grade book.

  • Homeroom teachers assign grades to Resource students in collaboration with the student’s resource teacher.

Impact Aid Forms

Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home on Thursday. Please encourage students to get this form completed and returned before the Thanksgiving break. It is important that we receive a form from each student. Once the entire class has submitted their forms, please submit a folder with all forms, as well as the roster, to Ms. Gore. As an incentive, the first class on each grade level to submit 100% of their forms will win a "Popcorn and Juice" party! The first grade level to submit 100% of their forms will win an Icee Party. If you need additional forms, they can be found in the folder outside Ms. Gore's door. Thank you for your help in this process.

Techie of the Week!

Mrs. Porter’s Techie of the Week is Ms. Trashon Howard! Her class incorporated a class Voicethread in her stations for their Community Helpers Project. Not only that, Ms. Howard is utilizing Hapara to pull up presentations for her computer stations which saves instructional time of her opening files on individual computers. Check out their video http://tinyurl.com/nd9vrku .

Celebrations!

- Congratulations to the 4th grade team for an outstanding "First Thanksgiving Feast" with their students and parents on Friday! It was truly a feast and we appreciate you for going above and beyond to provide meaningful experiences for your students!

STEAM update from Dr. Scotland

During the STEAM Advisory Meeting, I stated that I would like for each grade level to begin to think about what specific engineering focus/skill would be achieved in their grade level. By the end of the year, if we have this in place we can start the next year with clear Engineering Standard Expectations. "Beginning with the End In Mind"
