First period marking update

This newsletter will be sent home to parents once a marking period to keep everyone updated with all of the exciting activities taking place in the Library Media Center. The LMC is more than just a place where students come during study halls. This is the second year of the popular Live at the LMC! program (see photo above), a monthly program featuring student performers who put on several 20-minute performances during a block period. Ms. Crooks and Mr. Lougee work with Mr. Bilmes on putting this together each month. This fall, the LMC has also featured a wonderful display of student work by students in Ms. Campbell's Digital Photography Class, and hosted local veterans for a Veterans Day presentation. The School Counseling Department has also used the LMC for hosting visits by college representatives, including Western Connecticut, Springfield and St. Michael's. Meanwhile, Mr. Bilmes has been busy working with History classes on helping students learn how to evaluate websites, and working with senior English classes on helping students with their Capstone research.

Nutmeg Book Club off to a great start

An enthusiastic group of readers have been attending monthly meeetings for the newly-formed Nutmeg Book Club. The club, a partnership between the Oxford Public Library and OHS, reads a different book each month from this year's Nutmeg High School list. Students will be voting on their favorite title in February. Newcomers can still join the club by stopping by and getting more information from Mr. Bilmes in the LMC.
