A Message From the Principal

Enjoying 2019-2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are off and running. Now that we just finished our first 5-day week, we are poised and prepped for many exciting days to come. I believe the first two four-day weeks played a crucial part in getting our students calibrated to start what we hope will be a highly successful year. Thank you to all of our parents who were able to attend our back-to-school nights. We were very appreciative of your presence. If you were not able to attend, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

Mrs. Doughtery's Kindergarten class took a quick break to say "hello" to everyone!

Big picture

We had our annual School Wide Positive Behavior assembly a little over a week ago, and our students responded beautifully. Our 2019-20 theme is, “Brighten Someone’s Day.” When students do something nice for another person they may earn a cougar slip that details their acts of kindness. Students bring this slip to the office to be praised and recognized for their contribution to our environment. Then, they take the slip home to share it with their parents. Each student’s individual recognition also contributes to the school-wide end-of-year reward party. Students earn a school-wide party by filling the cougar jug by the end of May.

School-wide Assembly

The assembly also addressed behavioral and social expectations, and how the decisions we make impact our lives. Our goal is to provide the ultimate school environment in which students will be successful across the entire academic, social, and emotional spectrum. We teach our students that an overwhelming majority of issues can be avoided by adhering to the two Golden Rules: 1) keep your hands and feet to yourself and, 2) if you do not have anything positive to say, keep your comments to yourself. Adherence to these two short and simple rules, is largely responsible for minimal disciplinary issues.

Important Reminder

Lastly, I wanted to send an early reminder to parents to clear your calendars for 10/11/2019. We are planning to host our second “Parents Night Out” event! The event will run from 5:30-8:30 pm. Drop the kids off for a few hours in a safe and secure environment and go have a ball! Please keep an eye out for this event in the coming weeks.

We're off to a fantastic start to our school year as indicated by all the happy faces walking through our doors everyday! We feel fortunate to have another year and opportunity to positively impact the lives of children. We thank our community for giving us the rewarding opportunity. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. Our doors are always open.

Joyfully,

Christopher M. Alston, Ed.D.
