The Core Four
NLCI is committed to staying focused on building and enhancing each core to drive student improvement. Our current emphasis is on our standards - ensuring rigorous, nationally-aligned standards, progress monitoring to standards, and renewing standards (science).
Standards - define what students know and are able to do
Supporting Standards - standards that build proficiency of the focus standards
Focus Standards - priority standards that outline the enduring & cross-cutting skills & knowledge for which students must be proficient

The Renewed NLCI Science Standards
The Need for New Standards
Why did we need new science standards?
There is no doubt that science - and therefore, science education - is central to the lives of all Americans. Never before has our world been so complex and scientific literacy is crtical to making sense of it all. Science is also at the heart of America's ability to continue innovating, leading, and creating jobs for the future. That's why all students - regardless of whether they pursue college or STEM careers - should have access to a high-quality K-12 science education.

NEXT STEPS
- The STEMScopes Readiness Assessment will be emailed. Please return to Alicia.lazz@nlcinc.com by Oct. 9.
- The Kindergarten Extension Manual is located on this SMORE and is also available on Nobel Ed. As you write your lesson plans, see how you are matching them to the standards - what students must know and be able to do.
- There will be no PD in October. Instead, you will be receiving information about iReady and training
- Use Toby, Alicia and the Education Department as your "go to EDU's" for any questions or support along the way. My cell is 215-680-0123.
