Cedaroak Park Connection
April 11, 2022
Message from the Principal - Spring Events Return!
Dear Cedaroak Park Families,
I hope you are enjoying the surprise of a snow day! We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
As we emerge from two difficult years at a thoughtful and measured pace, I am thrilled to share some on campus events we are currently planning! Be sure and mark your calendars for these Cedaroak Park spring events. We are very excited to be able to plan for the return of some of our treasured school celebrations!
On Friday, May 13, we will have our Cedaroak Park Fun Run, Walk, and Roll for students. More information will be coming soon on this important fundraiser and school community building event!
On Wednesday, May 18th at 3:30 PM, we will host an in-person Kindergarten Meet and Greet for all students who will be starting kindergarten at Cedaroak Park in the fall. We will share more specific information with you as the date approaches. Incoming kinder families should be sure to save the date on their calendars. If you have not already done so, please be sure to register as soon as possible. The sooner the better so that we can plan accordingly for the ‘22-’23 school year!
On June 9th, we will host our Cedaroak Park Field Day, with outdoor fun for all of our grade levels. We will need plenty of parent volunteers this day. Please consider registering to volunteer at this link soon so that you are cleared to help out on this day. We are determining the shifts for each group and will be sending out Volunteer sign-ups before the event.
5th Grade families and caregivers, please reserve the morning of June 17th on your calendars. We are very excited to bring back our 5th grade recognition ceremony. It is a very special time for our rising 6th graders. We will celebrate their time, learning, and connections at Cedaroak Park as well as families and caregivers who navigated all sorts of new experiences in the past two years.
It warms our hearts to know that we are able to celebrate together! Your patience, grace, partnership, and understanding throughout the last two years has been nothing short of wonderful. We move through this spring with great hope and optimism for what is to come and will surely cherish the memories we make in the time we do get to spend together.
With a heart full of gratitude,
Meg

What Your Child Should Bring to School Everyday
Please remember to send your child to school every day with:
- A water bottle and snack
- Appropriate clothing for outdoor recess
Reducing Food Waste
This school year breakfast and lunch is available free for any student who needs it. We all know how important it is that every child starts their day nourished and ready to learn and have a nutritious meal at lunchtime. We see many students taking proper advantage of this.
It has also become clear, though, that a number of students are getting breakfast and/or lunch here even though they have already had a full meal at home in the morning and a full meal packed for them for lunchtime. That usually results in the student eating one desired item and throwing away the rest of the meal. This is leading to a lot of food waste in our school.
Please speak with your student(s) about school breakfast and lunch. Of course, we want to encourage any student who relies on school meals to continue receiving them. If your student eats breakfast at home and/or brings a full lunch, please help them to understand and avoid the waste involved.

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS
The strength that our community has shown in the past two years has been remarkable. As we transition this week to masks being optional for students and staff in most circumstances, our school community is encountering another turn that requires families and individuals to make decisions based on their own circumstances. Our classroom communities and school support staff will continue to navigate this with compassion, connection, and care.
As you have likely read, after spring break our school district will begin welcoming volunteers back into school buildings. This will be a thoughtful and intentional process at each school site. There is great excitement in bringing volunteers back into the school building! There is also a need to move through this shift with care. Due to the pandemic restrictions, teachers and classrooms have found new ways to meet all classroom needs through creative approaches and innovations. Additionally, the importance of specific volunteer support has never been clearer.
The first phase of this process will be to bring in essential volunteers. Next steps will include bringing volunteers into the school to support very specific classroom needs. Teachers will make volunteer requests that most support the needs of their own students and classroom communities. Please be aware that some classrooms may invite volunteers while others may not based on classroom needs. Bringing parents and caregivers into the classroom will be something new for students to adjust to and we will do this at a thoughtful and careful pace to minimize disruptions to the routines and procedures that students have mastered this school year.
If you are considering volunteering in your child’s classroom, please be sure to register at this link. http://www.helpcounter.net/wlwv. For the health and safety of each student, parents may not volunteer in schools until they have received clearance through this process. Please also review this important WLWV Volunteer Agreement so you will have clarity about your role as a volunteer. We ask for your patience as our district office processes this first wave of volunteer registrations, which may take several weeks to complete.
Please be aware that there will be some familiar and some new procedures in place at each building for volunteers. These procedures will include:
Parents will check in at the school office to sign in and sign out.
Volunteers will wear school provided identification when in the building.
Volunteers will confirm their prearranged and scheduled volunteer time when signing in.
If a volunteer signs-in during a non-scheduled time, the office staff will confirm the need for the volunteer before the volunteer goes to the classroom.
Please keep an eye out for further information from your child’s classroom teacher about potential volunteer opportunities in person.
"Dollars for the Arts” Fundraiser Campaign
Greetings Cedaroak Park families!
It is time for the annual “Dollars for the Arts” campaign through the MAP program. The Music and Arts Partners work hard to support music and art learning in our district, and organizing this fundraiser is one way they do so while honoring Music in our Schools Month and Youth Art Month.
If you have the means, I hope you will consider donating as part of the “Dollars for the Arts'' campaign. Look out for donation envelopes to be coming home with your child, which you can use to bring donations to the school. You can also donate via the website link below. Donations can be applied to the general fund, the Lynne Detrick Memorial Instrument Fund, or an arts program/school of your choice. For Cedaroak Park, I plan to use the funds towards instrument repairs, new music, musical storybooks, new instruments, and more. All contributions are tax-deductible per the non-profit 501(c)(3) status. MAP will provide tax receipts for all contributions of $50.00 or more. Checks are accepted and should be written to: Music and Arts Partners.
Students can bring filled envelopes back to school and deliver them to their teacher or directly to the office. Your donations directly support the music program at Cedaroak.
Whether you are able to help with funds during this campaign, volunteering, or supporting your students at home, please know that we all appreciate your support of our students and their access to music and arts greatly!
Yours,
Audrey Martin
Music Teacher
