Rounding up the jews
In February of 1933 Hitler was able to suspend the basic civil rights of the German people. He used this to intimidate and persecute those that opposed his ideas such as other political party members. He also used the human rights suspension to attack certain groups of people such as jews which he used as scapegoats for the German people to be angry at. 1938 was the year which Jews actually were rounded up and brought to concentration and death camps while their property, homes, and religious buildings were destroyed.
Life in a concentration camp
The first concentration camp was a place called Dachau. It's where the first of the unfortunate jews, communists, gypsies, and homosexuals were brought to work until death, or die from malnourishment, random beatings from guards, or being murdered through gas chambers and burned by crematoria.
Death camps vs. concentration camps
The first camps to open were called concentration camps which used people, which Germans had decided were less important than the rest, to do work and treated as slaves often less. Many more concentration camps opened to do the same thing however soon the Nazi's saw a need for a new way to kill the lesser humans. The new type of camp, called death camps, opened and had a similar goal but complete it in a different way. Instead of working minorities to death the death camps simply killed all inhabitants as quickly as possible. Even though many of the concentration camps were distinctly different toward the end of the war they also were used for mass killings.
