silicon was created when Jöns Jacob Berzelius in 1824 by heating chips of potassium in a silica container. Silicon is the 17th most abundant element in the universe. silicon came from the latin word for flint silex, because flint is the most common ingredient in silicon. Silicon is found in the earth crust as a rock.
