Using PACE as a framework for supporting our Children- brief adaptation from Dr. Phillips Presentation
Building trust through challenging situations:
PLAYFULNESS-children with chronic stress have often not learned how to play, relax and trust. When we play, both the adult and the child feel relaxed and safe which builds trust.
ACCEPTANCE- unconditional acceptance is at the core of a child's sense of safety. Accepting a child's intentions does not imply accepting their behaviour.
CURIOSITY- a genuine desire to understand a child's actions through "wondering", prompting questions helps a child to reflect and highlights that they are worth knowing better.
EMPATHY-communicates "you're not alone". Empathizing with the child shows your commitment to the child and allows you to identify and support their strengths.
