Summer Tech Learning Series
A joint effort of #cbcsd & #lctitans
Overview
The voluntary summer sessions are a joint-collaboration between Lewis Central and Council Bluffs Schools to provide an opportunity to learn more about utilizing technology to enhance learning and communication. These sessions will be focused on giving teachers time to work with one another, along with experts, to actually use and play with the tools that are shared. Teachers from both districts will participate in sessions together. You may attend any of the sessions, even if they are not in your school district.
Parent/Family Communication and Engagement
Communication is an essential component of a successful home and school relationship. New websites and social media give teachers some choice in how they communicate with their intended audience. This session will give you some research to determine what that right tool may be for you and how to get started so it’s up and running the first day of school.

Formative Assessment
Will students be ready for summative assessments? We won’t know unless we conduct formative assessments along the way! Luckily, there is a diverse group of engaging technology tools that don’t scream “YOU'RE BEING ASSESSED!” See what choices are out there, how you can share quizzes (and the workload), and what data you’ll get back when students are done.

Google Drive for the Classroom
Drive is the heart of all things Google Apps for Education. It supplies content to most of the other Google tools. We’ll share some uses for all of the apps inside Google Drive and discuss how you can get the most out of Drive for you and your students.

Recording and Sharing Student Thinking
Writing is just one way students can tell you what they know! Audio and video is becoming easier to use, especially in Google Apps schools. The writing still takes place, but you have the added benefit of working on students’ reading fluency. We will cover some ways to mix up student assignments.

Connected Classrooms
Learning and sharing shouldn’t be contained to the four walls of your classroom, or even you building! Your students can connect with other classrooms around the world in a variety of ways. Blogging, video chats and social media are just a few ways to get your class connected and sharing with others!

Student Writing
Some students need a little bit more inspiration than others when it comes to writing. That’s not new! But some ideas for getting those students on board are! Whether it’s tools embedded into Google Docs or apps that rethink the final writing product, you are sure to find some great ideas to get your students writing in the fall.

Google Classroom
Google Classroom provides teachers in Google Apps for Education districts a quick and simple way to share documents with students of any age in any subject. Because it doesn’t take long to set up and manage, Classroom is a great tool even if you only use it a few times a year. For teachers new to Classroom, we will discuss how to get set up and some tips for using it with students. For teachers who have already used Classroom, we will discuss what to do for the new school year and get feedback as to what worked (and didn’t) from you!
