Back to School Night
Back to School Night is this Thursday, September 12th. Please plan to attend this important parent event to meet your child’s teacher and get to know what this year has in store at Hope.
Grades K, 1, 2 from 5:30-6:15pm
Grades 3, 4, 5 from 6:30-7:15pm
In addition to visiting your child's classroom, you are also invited to visit the library, where our Library/Media Tech, Ms. Hodes, will show and assist families in seeing how to access and use our online catalog. This includes knowing how to help your child navigate Follet Destiny, the CUSD and CA online reference materials, access student accounts to reduce overdues and lost books, and access the website from different home devices.

National PTA's Reflections Program
National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. The theme for the 2019-2020 program year is Look Within. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. Entries may be dropped off in the front office. The deadline for entries is October 1st.

Pride Pal - Staff Appreciation
Pride Pals is looking for volunteers for the 2019/2020 school year!!
The goal of Pride Pals is to remind our Hope teachers and staff how valuable they are and how much they are appreciated throughout the year.
If you volunteer to participate, you will receive a reminder email each month from October-May to bring a small gift ($5-10 value) with a note addressed to your assigned Pride Pal. You will leave the small token of appreciation in the school office, and it will be delivered for you.
All participating staff members will fill out a Pride Pal survey, or “wish list", which makes it very easy to pick out some of their favorite items.
We encourage you to get your kids involved in this program as well! They can help pick out gifts or help write little notes of appreciation to your PridePal. This is a great opportunity to teach them the importance of showing appreciation and the art of budget-conscious gift giving!
There is a sign up sheet in the office, or you may contact:

Cool Rides School Carpool Program
Hope Elementary School and the City of Carlsbad are launching a pilot carpool program called "Cool Rides School Carpool". You may have seen Cool Rides program information when you visited campus for residency verification. We encourage you to make a plan with other parents you know to carpool to school.
For parents, carpooling means fewer days in drop-off and pick-up lines, so you can get to work earlier or have time to do other things. For students, it’s a fun way to start the day. For Hope, carpooling will reduce traffic at drop-off and pick-up which makes those time periods safer and less stressful for everyone.
At Back-to-School Night we will have we will have Cool Rides name tags available as you walk onto campus so you can easily identify other parents you know who want to carpool. You will also be able to pick up the Cool Rides contact cards – these will make exchanging information with other parents quick and easy.
Please pick up these helpful materials at Back-to-School Night and let’s make a positive impact on our environment, families, and school.
Drop Off and Pick Up Helpful Hints and Safety Tips
Drop Off
- When dropping off in our parking lot, pull as far forward as possible before unloading. One car has the potential to back up all traffic.
- Please do not have your children get in or out of cars from the middle lane in the parking lot or street. Loading and unloading is only allowed along the curb.
- Our gates open at 7:45. Only students may enter/exit through the front gate. As part of our secure campus protocols, all volunteers and visitors are required to enter the campus through our office and must wear a badge.
- When exiting the parking lot, please remember that it is right turn only during drop off and pick up.
Pick Up
- We open our gates a few minutes early to allow 1st grade families to meet their first graders just inside the gate. All other families are asked to wait outside the gates for their children.
